I don't watch anime because I don't like it much, most are very violent and I don't even believe children should see them. I remember to watch one or two episodes of Dragon Ball because my University stopped to watch it, everyone would end at the bar just to watch it which by that time I though it was really weird lol.

I think if you wathc less violent ones you'd enjoy it, obviously with decent art style and good story.

The last Anime MOVIE though, that I watched that had let me baffled in aw is: "Kimi no Na wa" (Your Name)
It's beatiful in ALL senses:

-It shows Shinto religion rituals, aswell as very few core beliefs

-The town(s) drawn are actually the towns that where, because one is hit by a comet/meteorite (Both IRL and Anime)but they rebuild it in anime using old photos as source. Aswell as all the other areas beeing "snapped" in a drawing.

It's a movie that I would give deffinetelly a 10/10
-It's romantic/fantasy/sci-fi it has a very GOOD ending and it is a very original use of body swap.

Honestly, I'm not into anime, I've always preferred the Western animated series and movies.
It's strange, as most of us grew up with anime when we were kids.
And it's just a personal preference, I don't look down on the genre or something.

There are Anime based on true to life stories and has realistic plots. Not all of them are for kids. I see this more of being a close minded elitist to Japanese culture.

Not anymore because I am busy with my online job and I am currently obsessed with my favorite movies and television series on Netflix such as Scream, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Prison Break, Riverdale, Bates Motel, Orange is The New Black, Designated Survivor, and Scorpion.

Those are not Anime they are American Cartoons. Anime is Japanese stuff.
