Monsoon & Weather Fury 2025: Many parts of India devastated by massive floods

Postby ptrikha21 » 06 Sep 2025, 16:58

While for many years, many parts in India longed for better and uniform rains, this year we have seem that Torrential monsoon rains have triggered severe floods and landslides across several northern Indian states, including Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir.
Plus some other areas in other states.
The incessant rainfall, exacerbated by climate change and poorly managed infrastructure, has caused rivers like the Yamuna and Sutlej to overflow, leading to widespread devastation. Thousands of villages have been submerged, with significant loss of life, displacement of residents, and extensive damage to crops and property. Authorities are engaged in massive rescue and relief operations.

That's very sad news, my thoughts are with all of those who are affected by the tragedy. I can oly imagine how distressing it must be to have your house flooded. Much more so if people's lives are in danger.

Whole villages have been almost washed away in many states. The impact is very serious and would affect Indian Government's finances although Financially India is in a much stronger state than what it was decades ago.
For stats, the Mountain state of Himachal Pradesh has close to 300 + roads damaged !!
Even fixing those roads, many of them at high elevation would be a big cost and time work.

This is another reminder of how vulnerable the region is to climate change. Infrastructure just isn't built to handle this level of rainfall. Stronger flood defenses and planning are going to be critical

Usually floods are fault of illegal loggers because they destroy trees that could have saved people from floods. They're also caused by corrupt politicians who make substandard drainage systems and sewages for their cities while their sons and daughters are enjoying lavish lifestyles. If there's no corruption, a country will not suffer that much from floods.

In Croatia and Greece is hard to steal wood so they burn forrest and later turn land into construction and make buildings.

Huge population coupled with Enterprise Greed, neglecting Geographical limitations and overall mismanagement coupled with rapid climate changes - all combined to create havoc.
There has been a massive loss.

You have hit the point. Unfortunately, Political and Bureaucratic class of all hues and ages have been plundering India, although there have been many checks over the last many decades.
Faulty planning coupled with climate change have caused these disasters.
Mountain regions are now facing the backlash from nature as many roads and buildings have come up in these elevated regions over the past 20 to 25 years, and at a rapid pace in many places.

Not sure about Croatia and Greece, but many European nations too have faced increased flooding or droughts.

While local people are suffering from floods and natural disasters, the sons and daughters of corrupt politicians are probably somewhere in Europe having a grand vacation, wearing expensive designer clothes. Eating in a restaurant where a single dish is the price of a brand new car.

This is because of vast differences in incomes of super rich and otehrs.
Here in India's capital region, while many people struggle to get houses worth a few Million Dollars, there are super rich with Houses around that cost Thousands of Millions of Dollars (in converted terms) and perhaps some have more than one.
