What exactly is Kodi?

Please pardon my ignorance, but I had zero clue so I Googled it and found this:

"Kodi is a free and open-source media player software application developed by the XBMC Foundation, a non-profit technology consortium."

Kind of.

To put it simply, Kodi is just a media player application, that allows you to play videos, photos, and other types of interactive content, such as television (possibly pay?) (Don't know, someone, correct me if I'm wrong?) or even radio. Kodi's various plug-ins allow users to access streaming media content via online services such as Amazon Prime, Instant Video, Crackle, Pandora Internet Radio, Youtube, and more.

It's like Apple TV or, a 3rd-party TV network, but a lot of negative attention has been surrounded by Kodi, because of its ability to play unauthorized copyrighted content, using its many third-party plugins. It works on Android, iOS, and Windows, as well as the XBOX. It is free. I don't use it, however, because I don't have any use for it.

Maybe later, because Kodi does have some awesome features and it's free, but I just don't have a nagging need for it right now!
