Borrow once-only items from friends and family

Postby Yugocean » 14 Feb 2023, 06:57

Many things are rarely used again and probably will not be for decades. Many times, people opt to rent instead of buy, which saves them unwanted costs. However, you can borrow such items from close friends and family members and save even on the rental fee.

For example, if you need a wedding gown, you will not wear it again (unless you go to marry again). Instead of buying a new one or renting it, just borrow from yours.

That is a good suggestion to save money. If it's not going to be used again and again, renting it makes more sense than owning it. However, when it comes to certain things like a wedding gown, people do have some sentimental association. They would prefer to buy one as it becomes a keepsake for later. Might not be a wise thing to do financially but then sentiments overrule

It is true, there are some things that we have a sentimental connection to, or because they were used on a special day for us or because we inherited them from our parents or grandparents. Those things are so personal that I have some difficulty lending them. Even though I borrowed the petticoat for my wedding dress.

It is futile to create feelings with objects. Will people be able to keep their honeymoon bedcover with them safely? Well, its on them, and on you.

Another option is to see if there's a Buy Nothing group in your area. A lot of times people will give away things within the group that they no longer want, but it's also a good place to borrow things that you need for a short time. I've borrowed things like folding chairs and coolers, even hedge trimmers from our Buy Nothing group.

I have known who wanted to sow their wedding gowns to their taste. It is now down beneath a box of clothes never to be worn again and all the expenses wasted.

That's very understandable. I too would like something like that in my wedding. Buying sometimes becomes too expensive to withstand.

I can't buy items that I know would be a one time usage. Any items that doesn't have a repeat usage doesn't appeal to me at all.

No one allows someone to borrow a wedding gown. There are cheap wedding gown rents this time. In my case, I will never borrow.

People borrow wedding gowns. What if they don't even have money to rent. They should go into debts?

I think it's also better to rent than borrow. If you don't have money, then just wear normal clothes, the important thing is decent and polite.
