Very true. When I changed my diet to reduce the amount of meat I ate, it reduced my grocery bill anywhere from $30 to $60.

Being that this is Lent, I like to have fish on Fridays.

However, today I totally forgot and prepared penne marinara and taco salad.

It's both good for our pocket and nature to cut on meat

I just watched a delightful K-drama and it got me interested in banchan: side dishes served with a typical Korean meal. There must be thousands of banchan recipes. Found awesome food blog with pics and videos for vegetarian banchan recipes.

@yugocean - Yes. In fact, some of the best food blogs I've visited for vegetarian dishes were Indian bloggers.

When it comes to Vegetarianism, India is always favourite, while Korea, China etc do not consider Veg as food; they only have veg dishes for Indian and other veg tourists for the sake of their tourism industry.

Beef or mutton in my country is quite expensive, so we rarely buy it. We simply replace it with eggs, fish or chicken, for sources of animal protein. We eat eggs, fish or chicken intermittently, not every day. Sometimes we just eat vegetables and tofu or tempeh.

You shouldn't stop buying it if you are habitual to it and like it. You can decrease the consumption.

I do not know about other places though, but in my country meat are usually very expensive. Over here there are some days we use eggs, while there are also days we use fish.

So true. Here goat/beef meat is also very expensive, so we are used to just chicken, fish or eggs for animal protein. If we want to eat meat, we usually buy it in the form of meatballs, which are cheaper.

Not a bad idea. I'm vegetarian, and it does usually save money. Like, if we make tacos with beans or TVP (textured vegetable protein) mince it's cheaper than using meat in them. We eat a lot of lentils, chickpeas and beans. When I first gave up meat (when I was 21) it did force me to expand the sorts of meals I cooked. The cost of meat has gone up a lot recently here in Australia, so more people are having to find alternatives.

I grow silverbeet and herbs, but the veggies we eat most of aren't perennials (carrots, potatoes, radishes). Inflation's no more of an issue for us than it would be for a meat eater though, I would think.

Spontaneo wrote:Is tuna considered meat-free? I eat alot of tuna salad 2 to 3 days each week.

To a vegetarian, no. Tuna is meat because fish are animals. The Catholic church does not consider fish to be meat though, because of an old fashioned idea that fish were not animals because in the Middle Ages they thought that fish did not reproduce.

Spontaneo wrote:Yes, I knew that marinara was safe, but was not sure about tuna. ;)

That confused me because in Australia Spaghetti Marinara is a seafood dish, but apparently that's only a think in a few countries (Australia, New Zealand, South Africa).

So impressive in deed. The consumption of meat has been said to to have more health complications like it's highly likely to cause cancer.

I am sorry. I am a freak of meat and this wouldn't work for me. It might work for others though.
