In all, doing the wrong thing would cost you more and get you to still spend more on the installation or replacement.

Or worse you could end up with an injury then you would have to spend more in treating yourself and getting an expert to fix it.

I'm all for DIY and fixing and building things yourself, but don't do your own electrical work. It's dangerous.

Personally I couldn't have ceiling fans anyway because the ceilings in my home are too low.

The counsel is that you shouldn't try this if you don't have sufficient experience with electricals. One of my cousins got electrocuted for something like this. The current in their apartment was low. He took a tester and some other tools to try and fix it. He got electrocuted and survived death by whiskers.

What you are saying is true. It is not everything that we use a DIY to approach. Some things are to be done with experts so that one doesn't end up complicating things.

I don't need to install any fan now because we are having cold season but I may be required to do that in summers so I will do it myself

Then, you can use this period to study how the entire process is done.

I have not installed a ceiling fan ever. But if you have time to save money, you can learn and do it yourself. In our country, menial jobs are affordable. So, we call for help. The time that I would invest in installing it can be used for earning more money in my job or doing something else. So, whether it's smart or not will depend on the situation and the cost of such work in your place.
