Had not spotted this topic before now. I work outdoors all year and use my hair as added insulation during the cold weather in winter.
I use a salon that only charges $10 per cut and only get my hair cut once a year. I go in when the weather warms in late March. I have it cut as close as they can get it around the sides and back and no longer than 1 inch on top. It is short enough to keep cool during the summer yet just enough to keep from getting a sunburn on top. I don't like to wear a hat.
It is long enough during the cooler weather by fall, and as it continues to grow, warm enough for the added insulation during the cold winter season including covering my ears by then. I get it cut again in late March to repeat for the next season.
My hair cutting expense is only $10 per year and I am happy to give the barber a $10 tip to make it $20 per year. The barber can't make a living from me but I can still get it done when needed.
