Also, one can carry lighter luggage to warmer places.

That's not expensive. Some people get to spend hundreds of dollars on just a hiking shoe when they already have some basic sneakers. I think that's a waste.

When going on vacation it is vital to draft out what you need, ie making sure of the more important things.
Like my aunt's who came home for Xmas holiday went back with some of the items she bought because she didn't make a plan on what she purchased.

Found this while browsing and wanted to add my two cents. One thing that’s helped me is making a “use what I already have” list before I even think about shopping. It’s surprising how many travel items are sitting in a drawer. Does anyone else do a quick home inventory before buying anything new for a trip?

I stick to a written list and give myself a day before buying anything, so impulse stuff usually drops off. Reusing things I already have saves me the most money.

Yes this is a good move, having a list of the things you actually need, and having the self control to ensure that you do not go beyond what is on the list.
