Stealing from work has potential dangers. If you help yourself to various office supplies for personal use, you are stealing. Period. The office budget purchases items to use at and for your work, not for you to steal and take home, Back when I was working full time in an office, we even encountered one employee who would charge things at our office supply store, charge them to the office account and then take those items home for her own use.

While it is true some business owners and managers have no issue with personal use of company supplies as a sort of unspoken perk, some take great offense and it is indeed considered theft that can justify termination.

At the very least, ask first. Don't just steal without permission. You could find yourself out of work, or worse, charged with the theft as a crime and end up in jail.

I am not implying it at all. I am stating it as a fact in some cases. Here in the US, you can even be charged with a crime and or be fired for taking junk from the trash dumpster for personal use in some places. That policy is specifically because some employees will find some reason to say some product is junk and toss it in the trash only to go back after work to steal it from the dumpster. They have their reasons. It depends on the policies of each employer.

If you use your office supplies for personal use, it is flat out stealing. If you do your own work while on the clock, you are stealing the time they pay you for. Ask your employer for permission first before snagging office supplies for personal use. Some employers have no issue with using office equipment or taking office supplies for personal use. Most will not pay you to do your own work on office time. There are employers who will consider theft of office supplies as a valid reason to fire you. Some will consider the theft as a crime.

All I am saying is to ask first to make sure your employer does not consider it a crime and accepts your petty pilfering as an unspoken perk.

Even if you work in a virtual office, you can still maximize employee resources to your advantage. Resources like data subscription, PC and the rest.

I don't find it much exploitative because hardly much data gets expended on the official activities that I do, as they are text heavy and doesn't involve much audio/video usage. It is better as a trade off when considered with the WFH facility.
