Well, it could be a duster as you have stated but I did not see stockings performing such function properly.

Then you haven't tried putting two to three stockings inside themselves and then using it as a duster. I did this when I was a kid but still can't forget

I still do it now. Old socks can have immense uses. Ranging from being used as rags to insulation against mosquitos when going to rural area.

Old socks or old clothes can easily be used for cleaning so these should never be thrown away unless they are not fit for this cleaning purpose
