The only means of public transportation that would he cheaper to use on a journey with a large family is a train. And in my country, the railway network is not yet everywhere..
Public transportation could be cheap when you time your travels not to coincide with the festivals season. When it gets to festival season, huge demand makes public transportation very expensive.
