Re: Firewood, Gas stove or electric stove what do you use?

Postby Kalayla » 22 Nov 2023, 03:21

I think methane gas is the cheapest alternative for cooking in my location. And that is what I use. It also cooks food very fast too.

People say that firewood saves more but I guess that is in the rural areas where they have free wood. Buying firewood in town and buying gas at the same amount, gas would last more.

Firewood would have been best for me to save money now but I can't stand smoke. I'm going for gas though it is expensive.

Electric stove would be the cheapest option in my country if you aren't being billed electricity using a prepaid meter. Estimated billing with electric stoves is far cheaper than prepaid meter.

In my case my parents have some woods so wood to use in the firewood is free for us.

That's right, I was like that when I lived in the village. We can get a lot of firewood for free from the garden, sometimes building debris such as bamboo, wood, which we don't use can be used as firewood also for free.
Unfortunately, one can't get free firewood in the city unless from construction sites and it's limited in supply. However, my parents live close to a timber market and saw mille, and they find firewood free over there. It makes sense when you don't have to buy the firewood.

There was a time that stoves powered by kerosene used to be the cheapest way to cook. But not anymore since kerosene is very expensive now. I think gas is cheaper than kerosene stoves and firewood.

This question could apply to home heating as well as cooking. My home is an all electric situation. There is all electric heat as well as an electric stove. Heating is the largest single category of electric expense, usually 75% more than everything else combined during the winter months.

I used a woodstove in my previous home for heat and it was more than enough to keep the entire house very comfortable at a fraction of the cost of electricity. I used to cut and split my own firewood from my own private forest and the only expense was gas, oil and chain sharpening for my chainsaw and gas for the power buggy to move wood from the forest to the house. I used about 8 to 10 cords of firewood for the entire winter heating season. I still had an electric stove for cooking even there.

Many homes in the US use natural gas for cooking and heating. Problem now is the US government is forcefully working to eliminate gas usage in the home because there is strong evidence of toxic fumes when gas is used. Others use bottled propane, firewood, solar furnaces and other options as available.

The US government is pushing everyone to use electricity for everything even though the power grid cannot handle all the requirements even now. There are currently more blackouts in the US than any other country as evidenced by a collection of documentation directly from the power suppliers across the country. 10s of thousands are without power every single day. The smoke from firewood is too much and even I can't stand it. It is just laborious to find the wood as you might have to move from place to place if you don't want to buy.

. I would advise you stick to the gas stove. Cooking with electric stove is more expensive as the cooker drags much electricity.
