Re: Brag About Your Savings!

Postby Angie10 » 12 Nov 2023, 12:56

Botswana is the type of country where retailers, particularly from South Africa, come to rob people blind. So unfortunately, we don't get much in the way of promotions... even during important calendar days such as Christmas  So while we do have sales through the year, I feel they fall way short. Any sort of savings I reserve come from my monthly earnings.

What is the essence of bragging about your financial life? Just keep it to yourself and keep on saving.

Some people need reassurance. There are wealthy people out there who shop at thrift stores too. There are wealthy people out there who buy day-old goods too. You are not the only one buying on clearance.

You are not poor! You are frugal!

Well, if the reassurance they get from bragging about their savings help them to save more without exposing them to security risks, it is fine.

I guess I could be wrong.

However, I have nothing to hide. When I worked the cafe, I was miserable but the monthly earnings were very good.

I was miserable though. I wanted to write online.

So, I quit the cafe.

I may be working for pennies now, but I am happy!

It is good to find more and more ways to save even if we need to go for bulk shopping

When they say that people should brag about their savings, who are they bragging to exactly? And what's the motive of the bragging?

Yesterday, we did some grocery shopping. I was so excited! There was produce on clearance for 99 cents!

So, I bought myself 4 boxes of salad greens.

Then, I bought 4 boxes of mushrooms.

Next, I bought a bag of oranges!

The only items that I bought not on sale were water enhancers, McCafe ground coffee, and chamomile tea.

That's excellent value!

The only thing I can think of that I saved money on recently was bras. There is a particular style that I like, and one colour (I suppose because it was unpopular) was half prize, so I grabbed a couple while I could. I don't really care about the colour as it will be hidden under my clothes.

I like to do a little special shopping after holidays.

For example, I went in after Halloween and bought two large bags of chocolate candies. $25 each and got them at half price. $25 savings!

I went to the grocery store last week to buy up packaged nuts. The store stocks up for the holidays but they want to get rid of them as soon as possible after January 1. The regular price was $6.97 for a small bag of walnuts or pecans. They had 31 bags on the shelf. At full retail that pile would have been $216.17. I asked how much if I took them all and ended up only paying $25 total for the whole lot. A $191.07 savings!

I frequently buy out the entire remaining inventory after holidays and get huge savings every time. I enjoy giving out treats and supplies to others many times over the year and almost always use the entire supply over the next year. Squirrels love chasing the nuts I toss out to them too.
