Save money by not eating meat!

Postby MysticMoons » 22 Jul 2022, 07:59

well these days you can save money by not eating me. And yes me and my family have been doing this. One way you can do this is simply by just eating veggies for dinner. Today we just has veggies with tofu for dinner, and it was great with a side of rice! We saved money on buying expensive meat by the pound. And it tastes good, and we were not hungry after, but we still saved money on the expensive price of meat these days. What do you all think of this? Save money by not eating meat!

It depends on individuals. 4 times a week, i on vegetarian meals but the rest would be one veggie and one meat. Leafy veggies are cheaper but i would have hunger pangs 3 hours later. Anyway it is healthy to go veggies.

Maybe one can go for a close substitute that is cheaper. There's the meat we called kpomo here in my country. Beef and chicken are costly, you can just use kpomo to cook it you can't afford others.

I've never had tofu, what is it like to eat? Is it difficult to eat if you are not used to it?

Tofu are like these soft squares .. they kind of taste like milk.. or its hard to describe. But they are soft and taste great with some soy sauce on top! Mixed with veggies in a stir fry they are very good. Also Tofu is usually always on sale at the Chinese store. It's a great substitute for meat to save money on food.

I am not vegetarian but sometimes I eat vegetarian because it is cheaper. For example, the other day I just ate beans and rice because I didn't want to spend money on meat. I am often frustrated in the store when I grocery shop because I will be looking at ground beef because my boyfriend and I love hamburgers and it's nearly $7 for a 1lbs package. When I needed 2lbs of ground beef because I bought hamburger helper and everything for spaghetti, I was unable to find 2lbs of ground beef for less than $10. I bought just the one pound of ground beef that was on sale for $5 something and got a pound of ground turkey that was $4.60. I have had days where I just skipped the meat altogether and bought broccoli rice and cheese for a couple of bucks. And breakfast meat is prohibitive so I just have toast and fruit and eggs for breakfast or something cheaper. Maybe some pancakes from a cheap box mix if it's on sale. I am a big fan of potatoes so sometimes my meal is just a potato and a veggie. I also love salad which can be cheap and filling with no meat in it. Since I am not a vegetarian I am fond of canned tuna fish. It's extremely cheap and very versatile for meals. Also can't miss with a stir fry minus meat either with rice. Meatless at least some of the time is definitely a money saving option.

I am pure vegetarian, and this is not something you can say you will save money. Many veg products cost more, a veg cake will cost more than egg cake.

Yes it's a good idea but for me I can afford beef at a very cheap price as a very close relative of mine works in the neighborhood slaughter house

Being a vegetarian or vegan is good but I would like to remind you one thing vegetables are also not very inexpensive. The egg and vegetables rates are the same so, I like to eat eggs than vegetble.

I am an unapologetic carnivore and eat some form of meat with every meal.

I usually keep at least 4 or 5 options in my refrigerator all the time. I don't particularly like paying $30 for a steak these days and almost never buy the expensive cuts. I do watch for store special pricing and make a point of really looking at the price labels to find the best deal. I also have a wide range of canned meat on the shelf just in case there is some unexpected shortages at the market.

I do eat a wide range of vegetables and fruits as well, but I'm just not interested in becoming a vegetarian. There is something to the saying "you are what you eat."

You should be wary of eating too much of beef I read that it isn't really healthy for the body like chicken and goat meat. You might want to eat it sparingly.
