Make the most out of rainwater!

Postby MattTolentino02 » 27 Jul 2022, 09:49

By simply looking for a huge old drum or barrel, it'll be easy to collect rainwater. Position your drum or barrel somewhere in your yard or rooftop so that when it rains, you'll be sure that it will easily be filled up with rainwater. The rainwater that you've obtained can be used for so many things! Some of them include (but not limited to): watering your plants, washing your car, cleaning your footwear, refilling your fountain if you have one, and even for flushing of toilets. Always remember that rain is a blessing!

Rain water is another free water you can fetch and use for during domestic cleaning. So it is always good for those that don't have ready water at home and buy water from the neighborhood taps.

It will be useful as rainwater is pure water and it will be good for the plants and can be used for cleaning so this way we will control our water bill and save the environment

Is it possible that the black stuff is caused by the big pail that you are using? You can try using another container and see if the black stuff will appear again.

It just so happens in a town where I used to live, a huge new local car dealer intentionally designed their entire parking lot to drain all rainwater in a collection basin so they could use that water to wash all their cars as needed. The lot was big enough to park 1000 or more cars on display. It was a brilliant design with very carefully landscaped contours so there would be no waste and pumps positioned in several locations so they did not even have to move the cars to be washed. Even the wash water runoff was recycled.

The only problem they encountered was a damnably ignorant local government who forced them to block it all off so the water went into the storm drains and they were forced to only use tap water. The government claimed they had no right to "steal" the rain water runoff from the rest of the community and had to pay for all water and sewer use like everyone else. It is even illegal there to dig a well in your own backyard. As you might guess, the government runs the water department and simply could not stand to lose all that potential revenue. The charges for whatever water runs through the storm sewer system is much higher than the charges for water being used. It's a profiteering racket.

Where I live now - the city strongly encourages everyone to set up rain barrels at every roof drain so that rain water can be used for landscaping and car washing needs instead of draining city water resources. I suppose the success with using rain water depends on the nuts running the local government.

Rain water can be used for so many ways. Collecting rain water demonstrates a lot of environmental and economic benefits.

OMG! That is bound to make a lot of people angry; the government you mentioned only thinks about potential revenue and nothing else. Fortunately, in the area where I live, the household water supply is provided entirely by the private sector.

Collecting of rain water can be of great benefit. The preserved rain water can be used for washing of clothes utensils and home dishes. The collected water can also be used for human consumption after they have undergone a special treatment

Wow! Just ran across a report about new regulations in the entire state of California being enacted this year.

All property owners will be required to attach meters to their own private wells on their own land and pay the state for any water use. They are also required to apply for permits to collect rainwater from their own rooftops. The requirements even require property owners to report the exact location of their own wells and what they are using the water for. It is an astonishing report about government takeover of private property. Just one more reason people are leaving California as fast as they can get out of there.

This is so absurd 🤦 The government is so creative that they can impose fees on things that they did not provide (or do not own). Will they ask the people next to pay for the air that they breathe?

Have you heard of the "carbon tax" yet?
Yep ... there is indeed a tax on the air we breathe and that one is world wide.
