Unplug your devices that are not in use.

Postby MattTolentino02 » 03 Aug 2022, 10:32

Unplugging appliances and devices that are not in use is an easy way to save money. We automatically turn off the lights when they are not in use, and we should treat other appliances and gadgets in the same way - unplug them immediately when we are done using them. It has been proven that unplugging appliances/devices will save electricity, so making this a habit will reflect positively on our monthly utility bill.

A few examples of the things that must be unplugged when not in use: coffee makers, TV cable boxes, internet modems, entertainment systems, cordless phones, laptops, etc.

I normally practice this in my daily life. I have been saving a lot in my electricity bills and appliance repairs as a result of this since some phone chargers and usb cables tend to blow out when left on the electric socket unused frequently.

I am doing this for years and its a good practice and will also keep all our electronic devices safe and there won't be an issue when these get broken due to high electricity or tripping of power

Whenever we leave the house, we remove all the plugs except the fridge. This saves all electric appliances from burnt if lightning occurs

When in use, your electrical devices consume electricity actively. When not in use and still plugged in z they still consume electrical power but this time, passively. You save that passive consumption of electricity by unplugging them when not in use.

Even thunder can strike and blow up the electrical appliances when it's still plugged in the wall socket.

This will help in safeguarding the appliances from spoiling at times of surge so definitely we need to do that

It is better to have all your devices unplugged to save them from spoiling easily and needing a replacement.

That's true. An unexpected surge can happen. It would damage if plugged in to power source not regarding if there was power supply or not.

Re: Unplug your devices that are not in use.

I have successfully reduced my average monthly electricity bill to far less than half of others in my neighborhood. A big part of that is unplugging things I am not using, but I go even further. I also use the main circuit breakers to turn off things I am not using, such as the stove, clothes dryer, heating systems; the bigger high voltage items that use a lot of energy even when not in use due to "zombie" electronics to keep them in ready to run mode.

The biggie is the hot water heater. I flip the circuit breaker switch off most of the time. I turn it on when I wake up on my way to the can and turn it off after maybe 15 to 20 minutes. That brief time is enough for hot water to take a shower and then enough to wash dishes in the evening. Why pay to keep the water at top temperature all day just for that? You can save enough on your electric bill to get a whole free month or more each year just from that one habit.

With the way the inflation is biting hard, one doesn't have to add more financial pressure to himself by incuring high electricity bills.

Unplugging device will save the power which is wasted while it's plugged on and not in use, even if small it'll still save money
