I too am cutting hair at home using trimmer device, and it does good job. Other people can do that too, this is as easy as trimming beard, for girls, they can just make a "choti" (use how to videos from youtube or any source) and cut down the extra part, it is still easy.

I didn't know this interesting fact about human hair as fertilizer. My husband lot of times cuts his own hair. For me it's very difficult, in any way, to do the same, as my kind of hair, thick that tend to be frizzy whatever the lenght, require a layered chanel (bob) haircut that only a hairdresser can do. At least, I can cut my fringe and do some monthly adjustments of my haircut to delay my visits to the hairdressers'.

My hairs are also thick, but my brother do cut them if I forget to cut when these are short, your husband can help you there, you too can try like cutting as ponytail.
