Writing a book in 3 months? A bestseller in 10 years.

Postby Fergal » 20 Aug 2022, 07:07

I have often thought that anyone could write a book, in say three months. The book might not be very good, but if you write two pages per day, you would have a decent length book in three months.

Once you have it written, you could write a better book in the next three months. Perhaps it would be a completely different book, or you could re-write your first book. Either way you would have a better book in the next three months.

Repeat this for 5 years and you would have written 20 books, each one better than the last. Do it for 10 years and you would have written 40 books. If you re-wrote the same book 40 times and each time it was better than the previous version, it would be a pretty great book. If you wrote, 40 different books, each one better than the last, you would still have at least one pretty great book in ten years.

A bestselling book is 100% good enough to be a bestseller. Let's say your first book is only 2.5% good enough to be a bestseller. In other words, a bestselling book, is 40 times better than your first book. Your first book will probably be better than 2.5%, but this is just to make a point.

Now say you make your book better by 10% every three months. I think that's doable - take your book and make it 10% better in 3 months. At the end of 10 years your book would be 100% good enough to be a bestseller. To have written a bestseller would be a life changing experience and perhaps enough to set you up financially for the rest of your life.

What do you think of my theory, completely bonkers or something that is doable for anyone?

People can start it with Wattpad, especially now that they monetize all finished novels. Particularly novels finished in one year with minimum of 50 thousand words.

Your post is kind-of hard for me to understand. But let me tell you a little about myself.

Years ago, a creep told me to write a book and that he would get a percentage. Ever since, I have steered clear of writing books. I want nothing to do with him.

Now with eBooks, writing a book seems so enticing. There are so many topics that I would like to cover. I just do not want that creep to appear.

Good luck to all of you that do write a book!

Sorry about that Spontaneo, could you please ask some questions, or let me know the parts you don't understand so that I can clarify it?

I understand if it is not something you can say here, but is there a way that you could write a book, whether it is a traditional book or an ebook, without the "creep" knowing about it or having any association with you?

We have only one life and we all have our own lives to live. If it is possible at all, try not to let other people have too much influence on how you live your life. Try to follow your own convictions and live life on your own terms.

Writing for 10 years on the same book would just be too difficult for me.

I would love to write an eBook on the over-production of cortisol and a few others. Maybe one day.

Thank you for the support Fergal.

Why not today? Start with spending a minimum of 2 minutes on your book, every single day. Be careful to never miss a day. If something goes wrong and you miss a day, make sure to never miss 2 days in a row.

Just spend 2 minutes every single day, doing something on your book. Do that consistently for 2 to 3 months and it will have become a solid habit. You will be making progress on your book every day. Most importantly, you will have established an identity of yourself, as someone who is working on writing your own book, every day.

You can always find two minutes to spend on something that is important. Maybe just spend 2 minutes, first thing every morning, jotting down notes and ideas for your book.

It's sounds cool as practice makes perfect. Re writing the same book like more than ten times makes it more appealing and best selling. That's wonderful

Thank you Fergal for the guidance. Would the best route be Kindle?

That's a route that a lot of writers take and from that point of view, it sounds like a good approach. But sorry, it is not an area that I have direct experience of. My post was about getting a book written, not actually about how to get it published or sold, sorry.

If you won't take care, then the book will be available in PDF version to the whole world, it is very hard now a days to use copyright law.

As my second job (after teaching) is a writer's one, I can report my experience: in my case, 3 months is a very short period and 10 years is too long. I lasted 4 years for my first police novel to be ready (I still didn't have the skills acquired as time passed by and moreover, I lack too much free time during my mother's illness) and then, my following creative e-books lasted more or less between 10 months and 1 year each one. I'm writing now my e-book n. 5, that it's likely to be ready in one year (it's the sequel of my e-book n.4 and it's longer). But as my publishing are among online platforms as publish0x, steemit and hive (I don't go traditional, with publishing houses), the important for me is to provide a weekly chapter to my readers. The same do writers colleagues of mine that use the same platforms, that pay us cryptocurrencies for our chapters.

Yes, writing is also a good source of income. And, if you write short novellas then the time you put into writing becomes shorter and you can churn out more books than writing a full novel that could take anywhere close to 5 to 6 months at the least.

Thanks for your reply Tendz, have you ever written a book? If so, can you please tell us a little about your experience?
