Save money with old things

Postby Yugocean » 01 Nov 2022, 06:41

Every household has a stock of old items that people don't use but turn their storeroom into a random museum.
People even set up online or yard sales to get rid of old items and earn money, then they sell them at throwaway prices. Stop before you sell.

Whenever you're about to purchase something, first go through your old items to determine if you need anything similar.

If so, compare what will be the cost of the new item and what is likely to be received by selling that old item.
(Add the cost of the resources that will be used to sell the old item and buy the new one.)

If the new item is expensive in comparison, then don't buy, and use the item that you already have.

I have some old stuff in our storage room. One day, I unboxed them and sell them online. I humbly saying that I am making money by doing this.

But you are saving nothing by doing this, first check carefully if you actually want to buy something similar for which you are selling the stuff?

I am not very lucky with online sales and in my country yad sales aren't common at all. There are people that make money from almost everything, I admire them and I really wish I have the same hability.

Our old things in the house are mostly clothes and books also old copy printers. We are not trying to sell them to turn them into money

I do this a lot if I have an old thing in the house that can still serve the purpose of what I need the new thing for I will ditch the new one and still use the old one.

You are the only one who actually read what I wrote. That was for saving, and others are replying the opposite.

Although I don't consider myself a hoarder, I keep and use my stuff until it is so worn out it no longer works. I don't even have a storage place outside my home. I actually do toss stuff once it is broken or worn out. I suspect most of my stuff is older than most members on ForumCoin these days including the clothing in my closet.

I avoid buying anything new if I can find something used at some residential sale nearby. There are also local consignment stores and flea markets around here where people take their old stuff to get rid of instead of junking it. A new office chair runs better than $50 to $75 for a cheap one. I found a nice one in a consignment store for $4.00. It was old to them but it might as well be new for me at a big savings. I just cut and stapled on a new cloth cover where the old one was worn out and it is fine.

I figure if it still works and it ain't broke, it is as good as something new at a fraction of the cost. That is also why my savings accounts are bigger than friends with 2 to 3 times my annual income.

It's a very good suggestion and tip so that we don't buy things unnecessarily and should first look whats in our store

Definitely, there will be no need of buying old clothes when we can just wash and iron the old ones to wear. No need stuffing the rooms with clothes all over the place

I have prepared about 3 meals before without having to buy any ingredients for them. I just looked into my kitchen used the old ingredients that were available and money was saved.

I always look at old items I have in store and if we not then it won't be pleasant to have extra items waiting in store to use at later date.

Get money by selling old things with little efforts as I had an old somewhat broken table in my store I take it out fix it and then color then sold online. I get 100 times more money as if I would have to sell it in its original form.

I often check old items in store. I either donate some of them or sell them at garage sale. I throw away old items only if they are really worn out and cannot be used anymore.
