Remember the guy who spends $0 a year for food

Postby Netherrealmer » 19 Nov 2022, 11:20

Remember Rob Greenfield, He is the guy who saved money from food by Gardening and hunting. For a whole year he spends $0 for food. Well he now stepped up his game. For a whole month he eats nothing but forage. There are plants that grows in our streets, backyard and even parks that are edible but people ignore because they didnt know they are edible. With his botany knowledge he ate nothing but wild vegetables,Mushrooms and fruits growing on his area..

There are plants that you just thought are weeds and pest but are actually nutritious and edible. He also hunts fish and salvaged deers that got hit by a car as a food source. He is able to make salt by boiling sea water. There are so many plants that are not poisonous and very good to eat but we ignore because we have no idea they are edible.

He did the Experiment first in Wisconsin, then he did it with New York. I won't do the New York one knowing how Polluted New York is.

The US is quite a large piece of real estate. Yes, most of the big cities are heavily polluted but the vast regions across most states are relatively clean country living. Wild vegetation varies depending on where you live or visit and much of it is not only perfectly fine for food but a lot of it is valuable as alternate medication. I have snacked in my outdoor work areas many times on raw vegetation as I encounter it but I'm not up to eating just that alone. I still have my favorites that I acquire from the grocery store.

By the way, when was the last time you visited the US? Have you ever been to Wisconsin or New York? New York City or anywhere else in the state? They might as well be in two different countries. I grew up in "upstate" New York with clean rivers, hills, lakes, countryside, large farms, etc. but only visited NYC 5 times in my life. They are not the same at all. I would not care if a tsunami wiped out the entire city of NY. It would be doing a big favor to the rest of the state as much as a major earthquake would do for the rest of the country if California fell into the ocean.

I like his style of living and this might keep him healthy too. Living in the rural is really ideal for this lifestyle

I want to try mushroom hunting but I do not know the difference between edible mushrooms and poisonous ones so I ignore the wild mushroom around me.

My parents know some edible mushrooms and they usually pick it in the woods, they are delicious and healthier than the ones we can find in the supermarket, besides that they are free, we just need to go hunt them.
