Paper towels are a great way to have an alternate, sanitary, discardable and absorbent cleanup wipe. Most people use them once and toss them in the trash.
I have a separate trash can just for used paper towels. If I have some major spill, instead of wasting several new paper towels, I grab a handful of the older used paper towels first to get the majority of the spill and only then toss them in the regular trash. If it is some small spill on the floor, I often use the older towels to wipe up a spot or two and toss them back in the paper towel basket for yet another future use.
If you don't need to waste a new sanitary sheet a roll will last a lot longer by reusing them. My rolls of paper towels usually last at least 4 months or more by reusing them as often as possible.
