I suppose some people are impulse buyers and can't see something without the inexplicable urge to buy on sight.
Although I have not been in a shopping mall in years, I used to live in a region where half the year was winter weather. Long outside walks were just not comfortable with cold, wind, snow and slushy walks making it difficult at best to even try to continue walking exercise half the year for health reasons alone.
The malls were enclosed and the long and winding hallways gave plenty of space to just leisurely walk in a warm lighted environment. They were about the only place you could even go in the winter to get the walking exercise. I almost never even thought about actually buying anything at a mall. They were just someplace to go for a long walk when outside weather made walking almost unthinkable.
Some people do shop there or malls never would have survived this long. However, if I wanted to buy something, the mall was always the last place I would think of to actually make some purchase. I have never needed a shopping list.
With the strong advent of online shopping, most malls in the US are turning into vacant real estate. Even if you do go to a mall for a walk, there are not that many places that are even still open for business. It would be like walking the halls of a ghost town. I'm glad I made the move. Much warmer climate and winter weather is very brief even during the winter season. I just no longer even think of walking at the mall anymore but I'd bet those who still live back there are still using the malls for a place for a long winter walk if they can even find one that is still open.
