You will save some big amount of money if you plan your meals, it could be weekly or monthly. It stops you from buying excess food that you don't require. You can also prepare less expensive meals in advance rather than just buying what you want everytime when you go outside. All this time I've been trying to make my dinner plan, and so far I've managed to stick to it so I don't buy food other than what's in my plan. Indeed, I feel that I will save more. What is difficult is when on my plan I scheduled to eat chicken, but I am craving to eat lamb. This will make me shake against this plan. Fortunately so far, I have been able to stick to the plan.
