Dining Out VS. Dining In

Postby Spontaneo » 22 Jan 2023, 23:33

What do you think concerning dining at restaurants vs. cooking at home…

When dining out, most people simply think that they are paying for the food. However, they are paying for so much more!

For example, they are paying for the paycheck of the cashier, the paycheck of the chef, the paycheck of the waitress (don’t forget they get tips!) and then finally the cost of the food!

VS.

When dining at home, you don’t have to pay for anyone, just the food! You can buy groceries on sale or on clearance. You can use coupons. You can look up copycat restaurant recipes online!

What do you think?

Since pandemic made our world upside-dwon, I still prefer to eat slow-food. Home-made meals are far better than being in a restaurant nowadays. Coronavirus is still lurking around and it is best to have proper meals with the family members at home.

I always prefer to cook my food and eat at home. I had some very bad experiences in restaurants. A restaurant is a business that exists to make a profit. I know people who have worked in restaurants and what they say is disgusting. According to them, even the food that customers leave on their plates is used (for soups and even to serve in the next order).

My couple always dines at home. The only time when we go to a restaurant is on travel for holiday or for medical reason. Being in another city or town, the only way to dine is outside. In any way, a lot of our restaurants are cheap self-services.

I do love all-you-can-eat food bars and salad bars. If I am going to eat, I want my money's worth, especially if they have a lunch special.

Restaurants don't waste food, for them what's on the plates costs money and can make even more money. I know it's disgusting but unfortunately, that's what happens.

That's what "doggie bags" are for. Remind the customer that they can take the leftovers home with them.

This is true, most of the restaurants reuse the food, recycle them and sell for money, its bad but business is business. While at home, we use leftovers too, but only in fresh way, not from what is left on plate, but what is left on container.

A roommate always wants a meal in big quantity, but then ends up wasting. Then, she does not eat leftovers. So, I consume what is leftover in the storage container... (not what is on her plate) I was taught not to waste food.

When I go to restaurants, I always ask for a doggy bag if I cannot finish my meal.

I usually have my meals at home. I do the cooking myself. I dine out once or twice every week. This is my gathering time with friends.

This is why I prefer to dine in and if I don't like to cook then I order from outside and it's relatively cheaper as compared to dine out

When I dine out, I'm also paying to have the food prepped and cooked, the dishes washed, the kitchen cleaned, the table wiped off, etc. There are times when that's actually worth the extra expense.

Dining in definitely saves money, but it does not save on my personal energy. You have to weigh what is best for you at that point.

This all should be considered first and if you don't have the will and energy to cook and clean better dine outside once or twice a week

I am different.

I would rather do everything myself.

My mom is like that @spontaneo. She likes to do everything herself and that's why we don't go out more often.
