In America, they do that with 'the recycle triangle around a number,' to indicate if you can leave the item in the recycling-bins (to be picked-up and taken to the recycling-processor, we imagine ... though it is taken by the same people who pick up 'the regular trash')

Companies do that because they are told to label these like that but other than that nobody follows these signs
