Buy block cheese instead of grated

Postby Jem Smith » 02 May 2023, 00:14

If you usually buy pre-grated cheese in a bag, you will probably find that it saves money to buy a large block of cheese and grate it as needed. You can then also use the same block to cut slices of cheese for sandwiches or whatever else you want it for.

However, make sure that you seal the cheese up carefully with alfoil or cling wrap after you use it or it will dry out and become unpalatable. Also, don't buy a huge block if you don't go through enough cheese to use it up fast enough. This works better for a family or household with many adults than for a single person.

That's a helpful tip, the price of grated cheese really is much more expensive. I've also found that grated cheese goes off much quicker, even when you are careful to seal the bag tightly after use.

We buy Paneer, cheese isn\t our choice here. But we can make Paneer too, so buying option is less till it is needed immediately.

That has to be the ultimate lazy habit, buying pre-grated cheese. We have a oval bowl that the grater slips over like a lid and it is so simple and fast you would have a hard time attributing a cost to it. If it goes empty, just slip the lid back on a grate some more.

Since age is no longer creeping up on me, but rushing in like an NFL ball carrier on 4th down from the 1 yard line. it's very simple.

I confess that I always buy grated cheese but this is a habit that I must change, I still need to check the prices, if it is worth then I will definitely start to buy block cheese. Thank you for this tip, it was something that has never been on mind.

I think it makes sense if you are disabled and can't grate it yourself, or just maybe really pressed for time. Personally I prefer to grate it.

I suppose that's because it has more surface area.

When the grate it before sales, it has been processed and the cost of processing is added to it. Buying it whole would surely be cheaper.

If one can process any food product cheaply, it's better to buy the raw one and process by yourself than buying the processed one already.
