Save Money on Water

Postby JASPREET » 03 May 2023, 06:06

We all know that maximum water is wasted during flushing and in our parts some even have the habit to flush water when they enter the toilet so to keep the water wastage to a low we can put a house brick packed with a plastic bag in our toilet's tank and it will save us a lot of money on your water bill over the years. <3

Are your charged more when you use more water, where you are @JASPREET? Obviously it is also good for the environment to save water and it is noble to do that where possible.

Yes in my country you are charged more for the water you use. So anything to help you conserve the water should be adopted to aid in saving money

The house brick trick is a good one. Water is expensive in Australia. Toilets here usually have two flush buttons- the whole flush and the half flush. You use the whole flush if it's a number 2, and the half flush the rest of the time to save water.

It is best to manage water. You should ascertain the exact amountoof water that should run your toilet per time.

Does it mean that you would be using less water to flush the toilet and it would still be clean? If so, it's a good strategy to save water and save money.

I am happy that recently water bill is given to residents based on their water consumption. We have water meters for every house and we have to pay the bill only if our usage crosses a threshold ( till that it's free). This has forced people to use water judiciously and the water consumption has come down drastically.

In my country, you provide water for yourself by drilling a borehole. That makes people to manage their water system so that it doesn't spoil easily.

I always utilize the least water when I use the toilet. But I cannot manage my spouse to follow that, because, being a woman, normally she is a cleanliness freak :D, and so she flushes two (or sometimes more) in the toilet.

Here there is no limit of water usage whether you use one bucket or 10 per day the monthly bill will be same. But we all try to save water not for bills but for our own satisfaction, and if we save it will given to others.

Here in the US, we are charged for all water usage. They add an extra fee for comparable sewer usage to go along with the water consumption. It is based on the measured usage per CCF (1 CCF = 1 hundred cubic feet - 748 gallons/2831.5 liters) with a minimum charge for 1 CCF even if you have not used any water at all. The sewage fees are usually higher than the water bill. The rates where I live have actually doubled since January.

We do everything we can to conserve water. In some areas of the US, it is no longer even legal to water your lawns or wash your cars other than at regulated car wash operations.

There is a minor problem with the brick in the tank idea. There may not be quite enough of a flush to actually push the solids all the way out of your sewer pipes and a resulting blockage could cost a lot more in plumbing repairs to remove those issues. It is best to actually use the full volume of the tank to flush solids all out unless you also take a shower after each flush. In my case, there is 120 feet of sewer pipe between my house and the city sewer mains. That stuff has a long way to go before it clears out.
