Stock up on off-season vegetables

Postby Yugocean » 04 May 2023, 06:18

Vegetables are essential for anyone's diet; their value increases greatly in the off-season.

Sometimes everyone feels like eating them in the off-season; to take advantage of this, many companies have been formed that buy and store seasonal vegetables themselves and sell them in the off-season to earn higher profits.

if you are not able to control your mind, then store those seasonal vegetables. Keeping them in the freezer greatly reduces their chances of spoilage. Then consume from this store in the off-season as per your requirements.

The problem is always how to preserve them from getting spoilt.

In freezer, this is how companies do.

This was my question exactly immediately I read the thread. Without having a freezer and electricity this will not happen.

My parents preserve potatoes for a long time, it is enough to put them in a dark and cool place. To prevent them from germinating, we put some apples along with the potatoes.

This is actually a nice idea, but keeping vegetables in the freezer for long requires a steady electricity supply which in turn increases electricity bill payment .

I think they flash freeze them to preserve freshness. Is that something you can do at home?

The fresh vegetables are awesome and nice component on the diet of a human being but they are rich in more nutritious when taken very fresh, preserving their freshness is therefore very costly.

All refrigerators have freezers, so why not? We do it, we freeze keep some like peas, now we are enjoying them time to time even through they are off session.

It is true though. Good freezers would keep your veggies fresh for a long time.

Flash freezing isn't the same as just using a regular freezer though- you need room for the air to circulate. I googled and there is a way to flash freeze food with an ordinary freezer, but you'd need a lot of room in your freezer to do it. I'd have to pull out most of what's already in there to make room. That might be fine if you had a big freezer. For a while I had considered buying a big chest freezer to store bulk amounts of food, but in during the storm season here we often lose power, so everything would defrost at once and much of it would be wasted. Our neighbours lost a lot of food during a three day power outage last year, and I don't think I want to risk it.

Yes but you should know the ones to store to avoid wasting money on those that easily get bad even in the freezer
