If You Want To Have A Dinner Party

Postby Spontaneo » 23 Sep 2023, 02:06

Most people like a nice and peaceful party. Yes?

There are ways to have a party without much cost for all to be burdened with. For example, are you so blessed as to be able to prepare your own pasta?

First of all, as for the host/hostess, set the date about a month ahead.

Then, as for invitations, e-mail the guests or simply give a call.

A major contribution and to be loved by all, of utmost importance, ask guests kindly to bring a covered dish! If your party has a theme, then bring a coordinating dish. For example, a pasta evening. (Yes, I am partial to pasta! Thank you mother Rose!)

As for music, I personally dislike. Unless, a good Sinatra!

As for silverware, napkins, plates and cups, go to the local dollar store! Remember to purchase sturdy plates so as not to collapse if placed on a guest’s knee.

Do you want a wet party, a dry party or both? Wet parties tend to get out of control. People tend to start talking about politics and religion. Dry parties are peaceful. Why not provide non-alcoholic cocktails (mocktails) at your party? Not only peaceful, but you can save money! Since the days when I drank, the cost of alcohol has skyrocketed. Simply, take some mocktail cookbooks out of your local library for recipes! Then, there is coffee.

As for seating, borrow a few chairs if needed.

So, I think that I have touched all bases.

If you are worried that you are not going to have enough money, you can find things already in your own pantry, shop at the local store, go to the local library, have guests bring a covered dish and borrow a few chairs!

You can have a dinner party like a wealthy and famous person!

Is this for adults party only? If it's a family dinner party, provisions should be made for the children and this will change the planning and budgeting slightly to accommodate them. Few games, cartoons, toys and music to keep them busy won't be a bad Idea

Every individual could have their own view but in my view as if I have invited someone for dinner then I must send some reasonable money on it. Saving concept looks good with myself.

We often do that, when we have a friends or family dinner, everyone brings something to the party, this way it is easy and cheap to the host and everyone enjoy the party.

I apologize for not clarifying but meant an adult dinner party.

I suggest for a pot luck. Everyone bring a dish from home but ensure that it is not a repeated item. A small party for friends or family members.

@peachpurple,

Yes, bringing a dish from home is what I am talking about.

However, if the guest wants to bring a bought item from the store, still good.

Yes, a small dinner party is good as the host/hostess may not have alot of room.

This is one idea that have never failed it is always helpful when we need to reduce cost. You would just prepare the things yourself.

Would it not be cheaper to use regular plates than buy disposable ones? Or are you buying extra reusable plates because you don't have enough? If so, another way would be to buy a cheap set of real plates from a thrift shop. I've often bought crockery and glasses that way. It saves money and I don't have to worry about expensive stuff getting broken.

I'm not a fan of pot lucks, personally, because I have some special diet needs and not everyone can be trusted to remember and tell you what's in the dishes they bring. Too many times somebody has assured me that a dish was dairy free when it wasn't. Weirdly some people seem to mix up dairy with gluten or eggs. If I'm catering to a group a like to do a mixture of dips, bread, olives, veggie sticks and fruit and things, so people can help themselves.

Get a friend to act as the MC and event host. Use your home speakers to play the music and get a relative to do a DJ using a phone.

If this were a huge party, I would understand having karaoke. However, not for a small adult dinner party.

In my country, there is no party without music. But we always compromise like in my mother's birthday with a Bluetooth sound system that is reasonably loud instead of having to go rent professional speakers.

All these tips and you would have setup a party without having to pay anyone. Done this before. Arranged a party before and was the MC myself.
