Don't Spend A Fortune To Color Your Hairdo

Postby Spontaneo » 27 Nov 2023, 05:46

Why go to a hair salon and pay a fortune to color your hairdo?

Go to Dollar Tree and purchase a box color for $1.25 and have a friend or family member do the coloring for you!

That's it!

I don't know what a dollar tree is. I have to spend some money to dye my hair. I have to buy them commercial hair dyes and pay a hair specialist to apply it.

The Dollar Tree is a dollar store.

They carry box hair color kits. I pay $1.25 (US currency) for a box kit then a roommate applies the hair color.

I receive many compliments! If only they knew! ;)

That's a good one. It's free compared to having to pay for the services of a stylist. Good to use friends to save costs.

Yeah you can do the coloring yourself than going to the salon to pay big money to do your hair.

If you have someone who is perfect in applying dye on people's hairs, you can use them. I personally use my mom's maid for that purpose

I colored my hair a couple of times when I was younger.
But now the gray hair is coming in and I'm just going to let it grow out.

Hair dyes are expensive in my place and it's a real project for me when I want to tint my hair. I don't allow friends to do it for me as the one time they tried, they ended up tinting my face too. But I have a barber friend that reduces the price and tints it for me.

Box dyes are a lot better than they used to be. I'd be a bit hesitant to use a dye that's $1.25 though, just because it might not be very good quality and might damage your hair or just not work well. Does it have ammonia in it?

When I have dyed my hair the dye was usually more like $10. Although I'm usually doing mine bright, crazy colours, and there aren't usually cheaper dyes in the shades I want.

It is pretty easy to do yourself, I agree, as long as you're not bleaching it (that's easy to mess up). Just use a second mirror to check the back or get a friend to check it. You don't need to buy a kit for it either (like with gloves and mixing bowl etc), you can use normal washing up gloves and any disposable plastic container, like an old yoghurt pot.

You can prevent that by putting some vaseline on your forhead and ears (anywhere you tinted the skin by accident). But getting a barber friend to do it is even better.

In my country, people that tint their hairs and are not in the arts are considered irresponsible. And no one takes them seriously. I tint sometimes and I buy the shampoo dye. It is really cheaper.

I have not heard of shampoo dye. How often do you need to shampoo? Is the shampoo expensive?

I have also not heard of it. Might be some hair wash that darkens your hair. Doubt it could have colour variants.

Shampoo dyes are popular here in Africa. It is mostly used by guys to darken their hairs. It's tye cheaper alternative to buying a normal black dye. But I personally feel it doesn't last.

It absolutely does have colour variants. I have used pink colour deposit shampoo after dyeing my hair pink. It helps keep the colour from fading for longer. You can also use it on its own, without dyeing first, to add a little colour each time. It comes in all different colours. The brand I use also has green, blue, purple, orange etc.

Shampoo hair dyes are generally very cheaper to buy and it's completely DIY in application.

I have never heard of shampoo dyes. But if they're cheaper, it's good. You get your preferred hairdo spending less.

Are shampoo dyes just like regular shampoo? How often do you need to apply?

You use them like regular shampoo, although a little bit of colour comes off so you might want to use gloves. I used to use mine about every 2 weeks (when I noticed the colour starting to fade) and use ordinary shampoo the rest of the time but you could do it more often.
