Don't try helping all family members else you would go broke.

Postby King Belieal » 29 Nov 2023, 04:30

One of the problems that we young people face trying to build our financial lives is that family always look up to you for one financial help or another.

Your Uncle or cousins would always call you for help with school fees, house rent and so on. And most of us being kind hearted would love to help.

Don't help all family members if you don't want to go broke. Render the little help you can within your reach to a few people. If you try helping every family member, you would go broke. No one person can solve family financial problems.

Your last line, "You can't solve all family problems" got me. I am lucky not to have a family that is parasitic. They rather help me financially.

I have seen so many people that were wealthy lose all their wealth because they were busy trying to solve family problems. Everyone should fight for themselves.

I think if you communicate openly with your family about your financial situation. Let them know what you can and cannot afford to contribute. Setting clear expectations helps manage everyone's understanding, and you'll have less conflicts and misunderstandings.

I think it is all about your family understanding that you are still upcoming and knowing the financial demands they make from you.

We need to be selective in our helping approach and yes we will get broke if we think of helping everyone who is in need

l agree you that as a human being you shall be blamed in the society no matter how good you can try to be.
For instance one cannot help everyone in the family unless they get broke and still they will blame you for failure.

That's right you should help where you can and not losing yourself and wealth trying to help everyone. You would save money doing this

I have gone via this and I should say that people do not care how much effort you put for them when it is your good time and you are having luck people are behind you always and pampering you for their benefits when your bad times start people leave you in moments and family members are not exception as well hard to learn lesson actually put yourself first always very hard lesson I have learnt .

If you are settled enough to support all family members and nothing negative happen with you then you can go ahead. But if you feel as you are ignoring yourself in support of others then it's better to first give good care to yourself.

Some people, because they have a wealthy brother would not want to work. They would sit entitled and ready to leech on their wealthy brother.

The financial help should be those that are deserving and who really need money for basic things and not for lazy ones

No one can fully support all family members. There would always be problems that would crop up. You just have to do what you can.

I must have grown up on a different planet. In our family, everyone was always there for any member of the extended family that needed help. We were not exactly what you might consider rich, but family was everything and everyone was there for everyone else even to cover financial hardships as they came up.

We never had any "leach" type relationships. If anyone needed help in any form each of us were there for each other and all of us did our own thing for each other as needed. Even though very few of my generation are left, we have lots of grandchildren, nieces and nephews that are covered in emergencies. I still would give any one of them anything they needed if they just ask just as they would if I were in need. It has already happened both ways. You can't take it with you. We share it all for a far happier relationship all around and have regular family phone, text and physical family reunions as often as we can.

Situations are quite different. What if you have lazy family members that don't want to do anything.

It's a great feeling to be able to help someone but when you know they does not deserve our help and take money to have fun and have no intention to return then its better to say NO

That is why I said I must have grown up on a different planet.
Our family has not encountered this issue for well beyond 3/4 of a century that I have witnessed. It is a foreign concept for us. Everyone does everything we can for anyone in our family. I have never seen any exception. It is pure pleasure for us to help each other on this field trip on planet earth. All of us are only here for a brief visit and all of us will take our exit when our time comes. You can't take it with you. You can only use what you have to help each other on this journey.

That's one thing I don't like about helping people. Humans are very dangerous and then terrible. I avoid helping people as much as possible.b

People start behaving differently after they get financial assistance from us and that's what I hate about lending money

And if you refuse giving them, they tag you as bad and go about spoiling your reputation saying all sorts of nasty things about you.
