How to Save Money when Buying a Smartphone

Postby Yusra » 05 Dec 2023, 16:00

Smartphones represent one of the costliest gadgets in our tech arsenal. As critical communication hubs most carry everywhere, getting a quality device remains important. But buying smartphones outright involves parting with $500-$1,500 typically! Using the following budget-friendly buying methods helps ease the damage to your wallet:

Buy Last Year’s Model

The relentless electronics release cycle brings flashy new phones every year that grab attention. However, tech only improves incrementally model-to-model. Buying prior generation phones after successors hit the market means dramatic discounts—we’re talking 40-60% off in many cases! Models just a year old work phenomenally still.

Opt for Midrange Devices

Beyond flashy flagship phones lie much cheaper midrange models ranging $200-$500 outright. With respectable performance, features and build quality, devices like the Pixel a series, Samsung A series or Motorola G series make compromise-laden stopgap phones a thing of the past. Midrange provides the best bang for buck for most buyers without commitments.

Use Payment Plans Carefully

Carriers and phone makers tempt customers to expensive devices split into monthly payments lasting years. This spends more long run than saving and buying outright! But well-structured 0% financing does allow accessing top models more affordably short-term. Just be sure to budget paying it off quicker.

Buy Used/Refurbished

Used and manufacturer refurbished phones undergo testing and reconditioning before resale. While lacking original packaging, these instruments function near new for 30-50% discounts. Reputable refurbishers like Amazon Renewed and manufacturers themselves sell thoroughly inspected units with at least a 90 day warranty. Just know used supply fluctuates.

Take Advantage of Loyalty Discounts

Distance customers win back better rates and new subscriber promotions beat loyalty discounts...until threatening to leave prompts most carriers to offer existing patrons discounted or even free phones. Just compare new rates first since switching saves money if discount demands aren’t met. Only honest cancelation risks yield the VIP treatment.

With phones central in daily routines, using savvy buying techniques lets you save hundreds. Splurging on the latest announcing models makes less financial sense through this lens—older or midrange options likely suffice fine!

Buying a model that's one year older is a very good way to save money. You don't get to lose much on current tech and you save money.

If you can manage to use mid range devices, it would make sense as you save money and not go totally low end.

I would go for midrange phones rather than refurbished phones. Some refurbished phones can turn you ti a prayer warrior.

Does that option save you money? I don't think it does as you might need to pay more as advance fee.

It is better to find the best deal and compare prices at different e-commerce platforms and even on offline stores

I am in need of an iPhone. I have a feeling that it can cover all of my expectations on a phone.
