Indonesian Action movies are the future

Postby Netherrealmer » 28 May 2023, 14:59

From 70s to early 90s, Hong Kong made the best Martial Art movies, Hollywood can also keep up, I mean John Wick movies and Daredevil series are examples, but Hong Kong will always have the best Fight Choreography when it comes to action movies. Not Even Mainland China can make action movies as Good as Hong Kong. Hollywood though lost spark because it became too dependent on CGI. The Action Stars became a thing of the past as they are replaced by Cinematic Universe actors. I will not consider Cinematic Universe actors " Action Stars" as their characters are more popular than the actors. They also use stunt men.

Indonesian Action movies are getting attention lately because They are violent, They have minimal camera cuts in fight scenes. Indonesia is the last country I expected to make Action movies since its a Muslim country but they make awesome Bloody violent, R-18 action films. Since sex scenes are kinda banned in Indonesia, they compensated by making their action movies gory, violent yet sophisticated.

Joe Taslim is getting a lot of Hollywood opportunities lately after his movies in Indonesia becomes viral outside Indonesia. He played Sub Zero in the recent Mortal Kombat movie.Rather than using Kung-fu on his movies, He uses Judo and Muay Thai.

Iko Uwais ends up having an English Netflix show after the success of his movie "The Raid" and has some Hollywood opportunities the last few years too. I mean look at how he fights on screen.

Julie Estelle uses Filipino Martial Art Kali on her movies, And Look how awesome she is playing villain roles. The way her hands handle knives and hammers is art. They always give her the brutal kills since her fight scenes are always weapon based.

A female starrer action movie is more realistic if the main lead uses weapons. Julie Estelle uses weapons and I think it she looks great with them. She started as a teen star doing romance movies. she transitioned to playing villains in action movies after she got married.

I do not think i have ever had the chance to watch any Indonesia movie be it action or not. But i believe it is possible for them to be the future, cause i have watched Chinese, Thailand and even Korean, they have the potential to surpass Hollywood over time.
