Live action Avatar

Postby Jem Smith » 06 May 2024, 12:48

Have you seen the live action Avatar the Last Airbender show? If you have, what do you think? I've just seen the first episode. The casting is pretty good (certainly a lot better than in the awful movie from a few years ago that was whitewashed). Just going on the first episode I think it's not as good as the cartoon, but it's fun.

Better than the 2010 one, they hired actual Asians and Indigenous people to play characters inspired from Asian, native American an Inuit cultures. I am still angry with that 2010 version with white actors.

Yes, that's what I meant by whitewashing.

I'm still only 2 episodes in now. Mildly disappointed that Sokka didn't wear the makeup of the Kyoshi warriors when he was training with them in the live action version. It was a cool character moment in the cartoon, showing that he could swallow his pride and do what was necessary. They seem to have left out most of the episodes that don't pertain directly to the main plot, which is kind of a pity. Probably because it's more expensive to make.

The biggest worry for this show is how quick puberty is, They need to rush filming episodes because these kids grow up before time skips. I think they stopped filming during pandemic so Ang's actor have deeper voice now. I heard they might actually skip storylines like the one with asteroid because they might time skip since kids grow up fast. They didn't have puberty as problem in Stranger things since no Pandemic stopped them from filming.

They can't skip the comet storyline because it's already been set up as the climax.

I heard they will just shorted the season 2 saga of the cartoon and season will be mostly adaptation of season 3. Their reason is to catch up with actor puberty

I finished watching season 1 the other night and they did do the comet storyline. Makes sense they'll have to skip some more stuff in the next season.

Its coming out in 2026, I hope season 2 have more episodes. They might skip some storyline from the original because they are in a hurry before the kid actors become adults. Remember when stranger things started the actors are kids. Now Millie Bobbi Brown is engaged to be married. So they are in a hurry to catch up before the actor who plays Ang becomes a man.

Yes that's one of the main problems faced with these live action adaptations. 2026 is still a little far though, but anyways i hope they don't mess it up.

I think if the Pandemic never happened, we would have been in Season 3 already.

for a tv show adaptation with kids as leads, they would not delay as puberty is fast. Now they will be forced to skip some stories with kids growing up
