Dharmendra: End of an Era

Postby germainebull » 24 Nov 2025, 14:13

Bollywood legend Dharmendra has passed away in Mumbai at the age of 89 and fans have been left in shock. PM Modi said his death marks the end of an era in Indian cinema. Dharmendra was a simple man but he captured the hearts of millions. His biggest role was Veeru in Sholay 1975 and that made him an icon. He acted in over 300 films and hit the screens.

Fans loved him for his charm and good looks to the point that he was called the He Man of Bollywood. His songs were top-notch and his romance with Hema Malini was a media sensation. Viewers and stars like Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit called him very handsome. But he himself used to say that he was shy and was just grateful for his genes and nature.

He was born in Punjab in 1935 and started dreaming of films early. After winning a talent contest, he went to Bombay and his career took off. He acted in romance, action and comedy and critics loved him for his comic timing. His pairing with Hema Malini became legendary and they later got married in 1980. He also entered politics for a while but he said he was not fitted.

He continued to act till the end of his life and collaborated with his children Sunny and Bobby Deol. His role as Veeru in Sholay remains a classic and fans say he is the soul of the film. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997 and the Padma Bhushan in 2012. Dharmendra remained humble saying he did not want to be number one but only wanted people's love. His death has left a huge gap in the industry.
