Rare Renoir Work Sells for $1.68 Million

Postby germainebull » 26 Nov 2025, 13:25

A painting by Pierre Auguste Renoir sold in Paris for 1.45 million euros ($1.68 million). The piece is called Child with Toys and was created around 1895. Renoir gifted it to his only student Jeanne Bodo and it has remained in her family to this day.

The canvas shows Jean Renoir as a child with his nanny Gabrielle Renard, who was Renoir’s favorite model and appeared in nearly 200 paintings. Jean was born in 1894 and later became a famous film director until his death in 1979.

Art advisor Pascal Perrin said the work is in exceptional condition and its colors remain fresh. Renoir himself was a major figure in the Impressionist movement that laid the foundation for the new art movement in the late 19th century. The painting is a perfect example of the family heritage combined with the mastery of a great artist.

The painting looks great. Wouldn't it be nice to have something like that to sell :)

True. This work of art oozes lack of pretentiousness. A great relic to keep in my view. If I had this huge sum.
