Who's to Blame for This 'Technical Error'---AT&T or TRUtv?

Postby friendociate » 07 Jan 2023, 15:25

I still watch cable-TV, sort of. It came in a package with the phone services of AT&T.

And I'm a fan of Adam Conover's Adam Ruins Everything on TRUtv. So much a fan that I automatically schedule my AT&T U-VERSE to record episodes of Adam Ruins Everything.

But something annoying: sometimes, U-VERSE will record totally random shows (most recently, 'old episodes of the sitcom Step-by-Step' and 'an episode of MYTHBUSTERS') as if THEY were Adam Ruins Everything.

Why do they mess up like that? Are the titles/descriptions delivered to AT&T by the various networks (shifting the blame to TRUtv)? And is AT&T unable to CHANGE the incorrect labels?

It depends. Are you telling AT&T specifically to record "Adam Ruins Everything episodes"? Or are you setting AT&T to record episodes at (for example) 10PM-11PM on TruTV channel?

If you set AT&T to specifically record "Adam Ruins Everything episodes" (regardless of the time it's aired) and AT&T records another show, then AT&T is at fault. If you set AT&T to specifically record episodes at "10PM-11PM on TruTV channel", then the show may not be Adam Ruins Everything. Even if it says so on the TV guide, networks can change their programming without prior announcements. In that case, it would not be neither AT&T nor TruTV's fault.
