Egyptians just sued Netflix

Postby Netherrealmer » 21 Apr 2023, 05:26

Wanna know the reason, This documentary produced by Jada Pinkett Smith is saying Cleopatra is black,

Egyptians see this as historical revisionism,, cultural appropriation and deletion of Egypt's achievements. Netflix disabled the comment section of the trailer because of an angry Egyptian mob. They think this is deletion of Egyptian identity.

Egyptians (collectively as a group) or one Egyptian is suing Netflix? It'll be interesting to see how this goes, but I doubt they will win. Cultural appropriation is way too common in the entertainment industry, unfortunately.

Where have the Eyptians been? For years I've heard people say that Cleopatra was black. As far as "revisionism". There is so much of that going on in various historical accounts, seems like a lot of countries should be suing.

But! I'm going to say that from what I know about the Egyptians, they've been REVISING their own historical records for a while, haven't they? I mean... Didn't they blot out people from the historical records they didn't like? I heard there was once a woman pharaoh but the Egyptians got rid of all of her statues and any records that showed evidence of her existence. That's what I heard. Supposedly archaeologists dug up proof that she was real. If true, isn't that REVISIONISM?

When it comes to revisionism, haven't people been doing this throughout the history of mankind?

There are 2 people in this world that you should probably double-check what they say. That's a historian and an archeologist. Just sayin'.

The female pharaoh was Hatshepsut, and yeah, they tried to remove records of her. Yes, I agree people have been doing that sort of thing forever. However, I don't think that's an argument that it's okay to do.

Personally I don't see what the fuss is about with this one since, like you said, it's not a new idea (portraying her as black) and we don't really know what she looked like. Portraits often didn't really look like their subject in ancient times (though more so in Rome maybe).

Yes I just read on her allegations that have sparked a debate among historians and the public about the racial identity of the ancient queen.

However while Cleopatra's While her ancestry is debated, it is generally believed that she was of Greek and Macedonian descent, rather than being of African or sub-Saharan origin.

One don't know what is a color of ancient ones. There were people of all colors, and it was natural.

Everything indicates that Cleopatra was of Greek origin and as such could not be black. Nowadays there is a huge need to give a voice to the black race (nothing against it) but I think that changing history and transmitting a wrong image of what reality was is not right.

Nobody knows what Jesus Christ looked like OR any of His Apostles. But I've seen Judas portrayed as a black man more than once. How is it that all of the other Apostles are white but Judas is black?

Although, there was a production where I did see the Apostle John as a black man. Yeah. That TV series didn't go anywhere. Nobody complained, but I knew there would not be a Season 2. I remember when I watched the first episode, I was confused and thought: "Who's the black guy? (???)"
