He used to be Mufasa's big brother who cares about his brother a lot. In the "Lion King" prequel, "Mufasa: The Lion King," they showed how innocent Scar used to be. He was big brother was also very protective of him. Then, as we know from "The Lion King," Scar killed Mufasa and tried to kill his nephew Simba too.
This song shows how close they use to be
Why did Scar end up killing his brother? They fell in love with the same lioness. In real life, in the wild, many lions have killed dominant males and their cubs to take over the pride and mate with the females.

Scar was jealous of his brother, Mufasa. He actually felt he was too intelligent to be second in command. And he had to murder his brother to fulfil his ambitions.

Oh! Terrible to know that the cause to dilute and malign this thick relationship was a shared lady love interest. Triangular love stories have given so many stories in Human life both in real and reel life. Why are animals trying to be like human? Or is it the opposite? Animals are supposed to fight for their prospective mates.

Yes, animals are more competitive when it comes to fighting for mates. Human beings have become a bit civilized in that respect due to socialization and the law of the land.

Have finally watched, but while scar used to be good, from the beginning he had a lot going on with his personality, which was a clear sign he might flip to the dark side, which he did.

Yes, Crime of passion is a thing, be it any species of animals including the human. Yes, Scar was going through a lot with his personality in the journey and such a flip would not come as a big shock. Though one might have wished him to stay good and win over his dark side. But not all characters need to end up goody goody all the time

Right from time, females have always been coming in between males. See how Scar had to kill a brother he always protected just because his brother shared the same love interest.

Scar killing Mufasa because of a lioness shows how vicious the world is when it comes to pursuing interests. It is found in human life, animal kingdom, politics. Interests always serves as a priority. It is a shame Scar killed Mufasa.

I remember breaking down as a child going through this scene that Scar killed Mufasa. Believe that was my first exposure to betrayal and treachery at such level.
