Anime

Postby lion » 24 Apr 2015, 14:06

Are there any anime fans here? If so, what's your favourite? ^_^
Anime is Japanese animation, unlike our cartoons - they produce a ton of different anime of different genres, the majority aimed at an older audience.

I wouldn't say the majority are aimed at older audience.
My favorites are Berserk, Akira, Death Note, Evangelion, Love Hina, Hayao Miyazaki movies, Satoshi Kon movies. Still love DBZ.

So what's your favorite?

I love anime! First of all
Parasyte: The Maxim (THIS ONE IS A MUST WATCH OKAY GUYS?)

From the (not so) old ones... I recommend:

D. Gray-Man
Full Metal Alchemist (Both the original and Brotherhood)
Rave Master
Sakura Card Captor
Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle
Hunter X Hunter
XXX Holic
Black Cat
Air Gear
Durarara!!
Soul Eater
Some say Gintama is quite great

If you want a fresh take on animes:
No Game No Life (This one is SO AWESOME)
Hunter X Hunter (The new one, from 2011)
Black Bullet
Log Horizon
Aldnoah.Zero
When Supernatural Battles Became Commonplace

I really want to watch Assassination Classroom, Tokyo Ghoul and Death Parade

Well, Studio Ghibli movies are absolutely splendid, but I haven't touched anime for a very long while already...
;_;
Oh well, but it's interesting to see all the current gen anime though.

P.S. Have you guys noticed that this gen's anime's normally will never go beyond 12 episodes except for the rare few?

Yeah, totally! But I think that's because more and more animes are originating from Light Novels, and the "5 episode fight" formula has become quite boring, IMO.
DBZ, Bleach, One Piece and Naruto have their value, even if they don't... "Fit" anymore.
The new animes have acquired a lot of depth and feeling. I won't even talk about quality. Anime today is absolutely gorgeous...

But yes, most of them are following the 12-episode-season formula.

Well, maybe that was a bad choice of words. I just meant more are aimed at older audiences (older than children) than western cartoons. I know there are a lot of family friendly ones.

As for my favourites, um, Madoka, Death Note, Higurashi to name a few. :)

Meanwhile we have Sazae-san with 7181 episodes and ongoing. -_-;

I disagree. In modern anime computer animation is easily noticable. The fully hand drawn animation is way more impressive and looks much better. But it also requires a lot more work. I don't like how in a lot of the modern anime the characters contrast strongly against the background so it doesn't even look like it's a same scene, like in Attack On Titan for example. Reminds me of cell shaded video games.

I used to watch a lot of anime but I rarely can enjoy it anymore. The community ruined it for me.

Extreme anime fans aka weeaboos can be annoying, but it's stupid if you let the fans ruin it for you - everything has a fanbase that has it's annoying vocal minorities. I personally don't pay attention to them and just enjoy watching it.

I'm watching an anime called "Another" right now. It's a mystery horror story. I'm near the end, 4 more peisodes to go. It's not bad but I don't really like the chaaracters and the way the curse works in the story doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Reminds me of Final Destination movies.
