The naming a song after a person "curse"

Postby Netherrealmer » 13 Jan 2020, 17:16

Many singer songwriters loves a person so much they write a song about them. Whether its old or new it happens a lot.

1 year ago, Ariana Grande loves her then boyfriend Pete Davidson so much she wrote a song about him.

We know what happened to their relationship. They broke up and he replaced her with an older woman.

Tom Sholz, the founder of the band Boston, made the song "Amanda"

Amanda dumped him too.

Alexander Rybak fell in love with his Violinist Moa whose nickname is Oah. The lyrics of his song.... I am singing Oah, I love you Moa.

The girl Moa actually appeared on the Music video too. Well he is courting her to be his girlfriend and he thought writing a song about her and making her appear on his music video will win her heart. Well she rejected him. He succumb to depression because of it and it took years before he recovered.

When Paul Anka was 12 years old he fell in love with his teenage babysitter Diana Ayoub.

When he turned 15 she becomes the 18 year old babysitter of his younger brother. He is so in love with Diana that when Campbell canned Mushroom soup have a trip to New York promo, he collected lots of can labels from garbage cans and his neighbors so he can join the promo. He wanted to win a trip to New York, so he can submit the song he wrote about her. He thinks she will love him back and see him as a man and not a little boy if he gets famous.

He won the trip to New York and use that so he can go to a record deal and submit this song.

The song became a hit but Diana rejected him again. She felt embarrassed by the fame this song gave her because media kept interviewing her.

Oh he made a sequel for the song Diana after she broke his heart.

So that song is about Angelina Jolie? did they date before she got famous?

Another example of the curse.

The vocalist of the Japanese Band Blue hearts is In love with Japanese American Singer, Ann Linda Lewis.....

He made a song titled Linda Linda, which is very iconic in Japan.

Ann Lewis said no to him. Well at least the song got iconic in Japan.

Yes, they were married for about three years and it was believed they had been wearing vials of each other's blood around their necks and even had matching burial plots. She was probably famous even then because of her dad, Jon Voight (actor).

That Linda, Linda song is catchy! I like it. Too bad she had to go and say no. ("Why you had to go and make me like you?" )

I think he wrote a song about her because Ann Lewis is really a beautiful woman.

Linda Linda have an English version.

------------

The Song Iris by Goo Goo dolls is about the country singer Iris Dement.

Lets say things didn't go well in the end.

Joshia Kadison's song Jessie was about his girlfriend Sarah Jessica Parker.... another curse I guess. We know they didn't end up together.

Robin Thicke wrote the song Get her back so his wife will forgive him and wont divorce him after he cheated on her. The song was originally titled Paula.

I thought the English version was going to remain a cappella, whew! That's all good but when the voice itself is music. Yeah, that girl looks good for real. She makes me want to write a song too, lol. I couldn't get Robin Thicke's song to play but yes - no lies told about Sarah's story. That wasn't just a guess.

Ann Lewis looks so good she wrote a song about herself too titled with her name.
Let's say the curse kinda affected her too because she have to deal with Anxiety and mental health issues. So do not write a song about yourself with the name as the title.

Oh J.LO have a song Jenny from the Block! Look at her failed relationships.

We can bet our bottom dollar that he got it 'outside the box' :D It's Fergus alright, always coming with something we haven't thought of.

I still can't get over it that she titled the song with her name. Lol. I've often heard singers mentioning their own names in their songs but rarely is it the title. Wait, didn't Snoop Dogg have a song - Snoop Doggy Dogg? Or that's not the name of the song? I don't know but I heard him calling his name in one. Hopefully that didn't land him the same fate as the others!? I heard that he is no longer a Dogg and now goes by the name Snoop Lion. Rrrrr...

:o Oh Carole and Oh Neil! They've got lyrics haha. I recall hearing that one by Neil but didn't know there was a real love story behind it. Both of them sound good though. Singers better stop calling names in songs if they want the relationship to last. :) So you're not giving me the scoop on Snoop? Lol, it's alright, I"ll go make up my own.

Here's one for you. So there's a song called Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond. He said he was really writing the song about Marcia (his wife at the time) for a session. Apparently he needed a three-syllable name and he couldn't find a Marcia rhyme, hence Ca-ro-line. He is now married to someone else.

In this article, CNN wrote "Marsha" but I think the name is Marcia.

The Vocalist of this band dated a Korean girl named Jenny.

Image
They broke up and he wrote this song about her and it became a hit song. That Korean girl is actually Park Bom who is a very popular pop star in Korea. She is kinda more famous than him now. Park Bom's American name is Jenny. I don't really think this song is part of the curse because Jenny is a break up song.

Last week I went to visit an elderly lady and there was a feature on TV about Neil and Carol. They said Neil wrote Oh Carol about the person he was in love with and they mentioned that she became a successful songwriter herself. I just sat there smiling to myself as I knew the story because Fergus had already shared it on FC. It's one of those features where they get you to purchase a selection of older music.

Carole and Neil, wow that's going back a bit! I guess it can be a bit embarrassing or upsetting for the people who break up but those songs become someone else's song in the future. My partner's sister is called Caroline and Sweet Caroline was the song that meant something to her first husband and her (he died) so those songs can go on for decades and be memorable for other couples.

At first you would think this is just imagination but from all the people you have all mentioned it actually seems like a curse. I have never thought of this, it has never crossed my mind.

It does happens a lot then. There are similar instances in Hindi Movies and songs but perhaps not that much openly displayed due to cultural differences.

It's crazy indeed, how many people jinxed it by writing a song about their love.
I guess this has been going on for a while, though - Beethoven most likely wrote Für Elise for a woman named Therese to whom he proposed in the end but he got rejected.

Alexander Rybak have bad luck with ladies he writes songs about, Remember when I shared his song Oah, which is dedicated to Moa, who is nick named Oah and he has been courting her and she appeared on his music video. Back in page 1, I shared the music video of that song.

He can't sing this song live anymore, I mean look at the facial PTSD on this live performance:

After being dumped by Moa, He fell in love with his violinist Kathryn and he wrote the song: Kathryn why not me?

Kathryn rejected him.

He then ends up dating his other violinist named Maria... He wrote her a song too

I thought this dude will finally have a break and find his love but him and Maria broke up.

He should stop putting names of women on his songs.
