What is the right order of watching Starwars?

Postby Netherrealmer » 22 Jun 2020, 15:42

If you will binge the star wars movie series, What do you think is the proper order of watching it. Watching it in order of release or watching it in order of canon?

If you will watch it based on release, you will experience the movie like how hardcore star wars fans experienced it. In order how the movies were released in theaters.

Image

You will start with Episode 4,5,6 which are released in the 70's and 80's.

Then you will continue with The Prequel trilogy which are episode 1,2 and 3 which are released in early 2000's.

Then it will be followed by Episode 7, Rogue one, Episode 8, Han Solo and you will end it with episode 9 which are released on the 2010's.

The biggest negative of watching in this order is that you will be spoiled on the Prequel trilogy. The biggest positive of watching this way is you will see how special effects evolve.

-----------------

Then there is the canon order or watching the movies in order how they happened in the story's timeline.

If you will watch Star Wars this way, You will start with Episode 1,2,3 and you will follow it with Han Solo and Rogue one, Before going for episode 4,5,6 and you will follow end it with 7,8 and 9.

It is on user oppinion will they follow story or release dates. But if you follow story, you don't know when they will make some movie with theme from past.

Example Rogue One shows preparation for destorying Death Star but it is already destroyed (damaged) in Episode IV: A New Hope.

Star wars is a classic but it's right order was always a mystery to me. I am also not a big fan of the movies, I watched it with my son.

I just watched everything in 2 days. I decided to watch it in Numerical order. I wanna say the prequel saga didn't age well because of early 2000's cgi. The original trilogy is the oldest but it aged well since they used practical effects instead of CGI.

I think Mandalorian happening first means if you will watch by story order, It will be the first one.

If you are after the story, I think it would be best to start with Episode 1-3, and yes I agree with you to watch the spin-offs Rogue One and Solo... Then proceed to the rest of the episodes.
This way you follow the story as it builds up from the beginning.
One thing I like about how they made the prequels is, they did not redesign the ships and the star-fighters and make the ones in episodes 4-6 antiquated. Rather they used 'earlier models' or the predecessors of the ships in the original trilogy. Although the Delta 7 Interceptor that Obi-wan flew in the prequel looks sleeker than the A-Wing Interceptor in the original trilogy. I'm not sure if the two interceptor models are related though.

It is a nicer experience for me watching in story order because I get to see the story evolve. Watching by release date is like filling in plot holes. Watching in canon order is a clearer narrative.

Aside from Rogue One and Solo, there are animated series that tells the story in between the movie episodes, like the Clone Wars.

Yup. It's between Episodes III and IV. The Mandalorian however... I'm not sure when it happened. I forgot if it was the young Luke in episodes IV-VI of Star Wars who appeared in the last episodes of Mandalorian... But Baby Yoda was never mentioned in the last three sequels ....

I would most definitely want to watch the star wars series on my free time, all I have done is watch bits and parts of it before.

I like only the original movie of 1977. Don't like others that much.

I know this might come as a SHOCK. But do you know I have never seen a Star Wars movie? I've seen movie clips. But I have never sat down and watched a movie. I clearly remember when the first Star Wars was released because I was a newlywed. I had not even been married for a year and everybody around us was excitedly talking about Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. I'm from the Star Trek generation and I just didn't get excited about Star Wars.

4, 5, 6, Rogue 1, Solo, 7, 8, 9 and then ignore the prequels.

The order in which you watch the Star Wars saga may depend on your personal preferences and whether you prioritize chronological continuity or thematic coherence. Whether you're a newcomer to the franchise or a seasoned fan, there's no shortage of ways to experience the epic tale of Star Wars.

Enjoy your viewing journey, and may the Force be with you!
