Whitewashing and colorizing are 2 controversies of Hollywood that I actually both hates.

Lets start with Whitewashing. Whitewashing is the act of casting white actors to play Asian,Black,Native American,arab roles to White actors and Mixed race characters. The excuse of the racist producers is that Colored people dont sell.

Avatar the last airbender is an anime style American cartoon based from Asian,Polynesian and Inuit culture. Basically its based from the culture of the whole mongoloid race. But when the live action movie was made they casted 3 white actors and a Dev Patel to play characters who are suppose to be Chinese, Inuit and Japanese. To make it worst the movie sucks and hated by the fans. The movie is flop.



Another Example that angers fans is when they cast Scarlett Johansson to play Motoko Kusanagi a Japanese character.


The director's excuse is no one watches Asian actresses and Scarlet is popular. That excuse bombed because the movie flopped.

There is also this garbage Dragonball Evolution. They cast White actor Justin Chatwin to Play Son Goku, A character based from the Chinese Legend Son Wukong. They cannot use the Scarlett Johansson and Tom Cruise excuse on this one because Justin Chatwin is irrelevant and not popular.


Now let's go to Hollywood's excuse to say they are inclusive and not racist. Racebending, Racebending is when they cast People of color actors to play white roles. I think its better to use actual POC characters to be played by POC actors. The biggest victims of racebending are redhead characters. I don't like racebending as much as whitewashing because they are making the actors target of cyberbullying. POC deserves a character that truly represent them. I mean why make a Black Captain America if you can just make movies about Blade and Black Panther. Why make a Black Snow white if you can make a character like Princess Tiana. Original characters felt more satisfying for POC than a racebended white character.

CW loves to do this the most but Disney is catching up.

Jimmy Olsen is Superman's redhead nerdy sidekick, In Supergirl tv series they cast a Hunky African American Actor to play him. The actor got cyberbullied to death that he quit the role.



Kid Flash is another Ginger who became African American




Another ginger becomes Black because Ariel the little mermaid will be played by Hailee Bailey.



Disney just casted Yara Yashidi as the next Tinkerbell


I think to give roles for POC actors just make more original and adapt more original POC characters so POC actors will get more roles.

Then let the white characters stay white.

Whenever a character is whitewashed or racebended the actors become a target of racist Cyberbullying.Fans can be brutal.

Yeah I agree with this, you know I did watch the Super girl movie and I was surprised and didn't really know why the actor who played the role of James Olsen left the show, I guess now I know why.

X-men villain Magneto is a Jew who survived the Holocaust. He is also the father of Scarlet Witch and Silver Surfer.


MCU wanted to turn him into a Protestor African American from the civil rights group instead. Denzel Washington was being courted to play Magneto.

Jill Valentine the OG heroine of the Resident evil videogames is an American cop of French and Japanese descent. She is suppose to be a white passing eurasian like Keanu Reeves.



They are casting a Black actress to play her. How about an Actual Eurasian woman to play a Eurasian character.

Black Panther is a proof that you don't need to turn a white character Black to give representation to black people and make them sell in the box office. Turning a White character black is making the actor a target for racism. Also Many African Americans prefers characters created to represent them not leftovers.

Yes, I don't understand why they change the color, race or whatever of a character, public are expecting the actor to be very similar to the cartoon. This changes only lead to cinema failures.

I don't agree with it for the reasons you cited @fergus1234. It can totally put off the audience. I know what you mean about Black panther - for a long time, Hollywood claimed people wouldn't appreciate a black leading man but look what happened with the movie! Hollywood likes to project its own biases on the audiences and it's not cool. I also don't agree with racebending in cases like James Bond, usually starring a traditionally white, dashing leading character. All this talk of introducing a black male lead or black female lead will almost certainly upset diehard fans of the lead. Having a caucasian play a black person is also bang out of order.

Avan Jogia received a lot of death threats because he played a popular iconic white guy.



Fans are cyber bullying him to death just because they hired him instead of a look a like of the character.
