Dr. Strange Multiverse of Madness is banned in multiple countries

Postby Netherrealmer » 26 Apr 2022, 23:09

The reason, its the movie debut of America Chavez, She is a teenage lesbian superhero who came from a dimension where men don't exist and everyone is lesbian. She is born out of two mothers and she is lesbian too.

Image

America will not kiss a woman in the movie, She wont have a girlfriend on the movie, She will not have sex with a woman on TV, The middle east and Africa just don't like the character is lesbian with lesbian moms. She never said she is lesbian in the movie but she did imply she have two moms.

All Saudi wanted is to cut the line where she said she have two moms but Disney refuses.

And the whole sorcery theme is not as disturbing as this 12-second clip? What are they doing trying to have a say in a movie based on such by the way? If I understand correctly this (sorcery) is a serious offence there as well? It seems alright if they decide to ban the movie but dictating to the 'devils' how to run their show is a disgrace. Why even look to them for entertainment?

But Dr. Strange is a wizard. Did they have a problem with Lord of the Rings in those countries?
Also the preview looks awesome! I want to see this movie...

It is just a movie and obviously so so fiction so why ask for cuttings. Watchers deserve to watch it in full... Well, better watch it cut than not though.

They don't mind Wizards but not Lesbians portrayed in positive light. I remember in a Saudi WWE event, WWE allowed Lesbian Wrestler Sonya Deville wrestle in Saudi, In one Condition, Women will dress modestly, and Sonya will be defeated by a Married Heterosexual woman. The Saudis are cheering seeing Ronda Rousey beating up Sonya.

So they don't like the fact America Chavez is a hero and not a villain to be defeated. So Yeah,Russia have similar rule. They allow Gay characters in TV and movie as long as they are villains who will be defeated in the end.

Banned in my country too because the religious leaders are so threatened of a lesbian character who didn't even do anything sexual.

Oh wow, you didn't say that before. Yeah, there's nothing romantic going on but they are probably thinking along the lines of not wanting to put any ideas into people's heads. In any case it doesn't make much sense because as you know there's so much more going on that would ('should') be offensive at the religious level based on where many of them claim to stand. This is just to highlight the hypocrisy, not to say that anything else was expected.

Not weird for this time. Some episodes from Tom and Jerry are banned to.
Several animal protection service are against kids show Masha and the Bear.
They think bear was to many time abused by Masha.

China just banned it too. For an Atheist country, CHina is very homophobic. If there is no war in Russia and Hollywood banned Russia from getting Hollywood content, I think Russia would have made this movie r-18.

The countries having an objection could have released them with a rating like PG 13+ or U/A OR A (like we have in India : A for Adults).
But outright ban for a creative work doesn't seems good unless one is badly offending anyone's region, nation or religion.

As far as India goes, I think India is now open to LGBT content, I mean there are now Indian movies with LGBT themes. ek ladki ko dekha is the hit and its a Lesbian movie but the lesbians are not sexualized. No sex and kissing, they just heavily implied the women are lesbians.

I just notic this and it is little weird. Usually Disney allow smaller changes if same can be problem with local rules. Especially when Saudi are in question.

Marvel has been forcing America Chavez for years. They want her to become popular and mainstream. They will do everything to make sure she is the next mainstream superhero. They do not want to erase the fact she prefers seafood over sausages.

Maybe they shoul give her a different name. It is very similar to Hugo Chavez, ex Venezuela president who was not fan of US.

I doubt they will do that, Marvel has been Pushing America Chavez for years. I bet next movies she will be in, she will have a girlfriend. She is even way censored in this movie because her outfit in the comics is much more slutty but they have to tone it down since her actress is underage.

Who needs Africa and Middle east if the movie just made $688.1 million. America Chavez might become a popular character after this. According to people who watched the movie, her character is wholesome. Her gayness is implied but she is not like trying to sleep around with women. She just develop a father/daughter bond with Dr. Strange.

Yes, but in the society as a whole, still a lot is lacking and socially things are not that acceptable.

With all the publicity her character is getting right now, you can bet on it. When I typed ame in Google search bar, the full name came up among the top suggestions. Maybe for other reasons you mentioned too. I haven't watched the movie yet.
