You've heard about Monday Night Football's latest big injury, when
Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest and collapsed on the field (it was
after a heavy hit--in fact, I think
he was the one doing the tackling--but it might as well have happened 'while he was putting his shoulder-pads on'!)
I wasn't watching the game ... this is mostly coming from '
watching Stephanie Ruhle's coverage of the situation.'
My first reaction (like that of most narcissists): 'What about me!' Specifically, "Why didn't they postpone the marching-band competition back when
I nearly died at lunch between Pre-lims & Finals?"
The truth (a little bit depressing for me, though you could see it as 'highly honorable of the NFL brotherhood'): My marching-band's leaders & my fellow marching-band members weren't "traumatized" by my near-death. (Oh, they
were traumatized; but not so much that they had to stop doing 'what they came to do!')
There were rumors that the NFL--though they say they weren't even THINKING of letting the game continue--was going to "give the other players 5 minutes to refresh before getting right back into the game"; but THE PLAYERS WOULDN'T CONTINUE after that! The NFL brotherhood is so connected that even 'loss of a seemingly unimportant player' (had you ever
heard of Damar Hamlin before the injury?) is trauma that requires a recovery-period.
Bless them.
--January 27, 2023 (AP says it was January 23rd ... but 'I'm not Procrastinating; I'm doing a Side-Quest!')--
K.O.C.O. 5 (if I spelled it without the periods, I'd think I were talking about 'the fifth cocoa'
) reports that Mr. Hamlin is back up & playing again!
