What Forrest Gump's Full Washington-Speech was

Postby friendociate » 03 Feb 2023, 01:30

The part that the mic cut out on (after he said "In Vietnam,..." and before he said "... And that's all I have to say about that"), was)

... your best good friend can get shot. Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing....

The name Forrest (for Mr. Gump or anyone else) is from the word/name Forest (the Tree Garden, a word built on an ancient wordroot that means Outer (Wood); or people named after it) - similar to the names Forestis Deforest Foster Deforrest Forester Forestier & the words Forests, Forested, Afforest, Deforest, Forestry, Reforest.

The surname Gump is from ancient words that mean "to Hop, Jump." I don't see any similar names, but the root (in Middle High German) is Gumpen.

These are good terms to know. Speaking of the Forrest Gump character, I did like what he acted in this film. I must say that Tom Hanks justified his acting skills here. Although I find it weird to have the usage of Forrest Gump for his character.

Tho I do think the point of the scene was that 'it didn't matter to him if anyone heard him so long as he managed to say what he wanted to say.'

Is the point you got? I thought it communicated that certain officials in the military and the government wanted to hide the real reason for the war. Kind of like they want to tell US the banks are safe instead of telling us what really happened.

Oops! Did I say that? That was a Freudian slip.
