Chelsea Handler hosted
The Daily Show last week, and Sarah Silverman's hosting it this week (one more time tonight, for sure; and don't they only run the show Monday-through-Thursday?).
I said last week that I'd vote to make Chelsea Handler the permanent host (because she reminds me of Candice Bergen (Murphy Brown)), but that's just my pick as a viewer; if I were a producer, I'd hire Sarah Silverman!
She discusses the news like ... like I think
SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE's Lorne Michaels would want her to. See, I once read that
SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE was designed to be 'imaginings of media-speculation they would talk about "at the nerd-table in high school."' (You know; one nerd would think of an odd change to popular media, and would tell all his-or-her nerdy friends about it to hear how they imagine things would go.)
SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE does have a "WEEKEND UPDATE"-sketch where they basically pretend to be news-anchors who make snide remarks about the news they're reading; but Sarah ... she does it more like 'she's having a snide conversation with us, and the news just happens to be what we want to talk about.'
I also compare her (especially with her hair 'put up') to Rachel Maddow---both because of their similar appearance (come to think of it ... have you ever seen the two women 'in the same place'? ... oh, there they are! (below)), and also because their similar delivery method (they tell you the news report, then they help you think about "what that means").
I still hope Chelsea Handler 'wins' the position, but I wouldn't mind watching Sarah Silverman's take on the news four-nights-a-week
