So another generation of The Conners is imminent ...

Postby friendociate » 24 Feb 2023, 18:46

NEW YORK POST reports on the recently announced (fictional) pregnancy in The Conner household.

Just like her mother Darlene (like it's rumored grandma Roseanne & great-grandma did), Harris is having a baby before she's ready.

But she's going through with it, and has the full support of her whole family (though a few--Darlene & Aunt Jackie--had notes of protest at first).

How do you think it'll go?

It's not a new subject for the show, so I don't think there will be too many surprises regarding how they handle it. It will be interesting to see how Harris handles motherhood, which she has said several times on the show that she doesn't want for herself.

Well, it's different in that 'the father' was "just some guy" (and NOT 'the guy Harris broke up with because he wanted kids when she didn't,' but rather a random transient she slept with while using a 'brew' of anti-pregnancy drugs), whereas the previous generation had children from 'deep relationships' (though it was kind of 'a shotgun wedding' between Darlene & David, after which they had another kid).

It will be interesting to see how Harris manages, but the show might focus on 'how Darlene "corrects her past mistakes" by guiding Harris (and whoever she gets involved with) through the situations that arise."

I thought this was going to be about the Terminator franchise. I did like Roseanne back in the day. I don't have high hopes for the series but I'll probably watch an episode just to see what it's like.

I didn't 'want' to watch it at first, but--like family-member's weddings & funerals, I went to 'keep my mind in the present' (i.e. to know who's married, who's dead, etc.)

THE CONNERS (btw, aren't the TERMINATOR protagonists The Connors?) is more a sitcom about how--though they might not-enjoy it or -even like each other--the family will help carry the load when they can.

Reminds me of the song ...

("He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother")

Checking on the names ... I'm right. John-&-Sarah's last name is a variant of O'Connor (or Ó Conchobhair), meaning "Descendant of Conchobar." Conchobar is an Old Irish name from a wordroot that means "Hound-, Dog- or Wolf of Desire."

"Conner" is an optional spelling of it (with Conchobhar, Conchúr, Conor & Konnor), but--when I look it up--its meaning is simply "Inspector" (making the name Occupational for 'they who inspect weights & measures.')

From what I remember this show is created to become a positive portrayal of Republicans. Roseanne is a blue collar republican who is accepting and loving of her Black Granddaughter and a Grandson who is probably a transgirl/nonbinary. She is friends with a Muslim neighbor etc...

It was winner in ratings, Until Roseanne did a controversial tweet that got the show canceled despite the high ratings. the show got canceled. To save the show, Roseanne's character got killed off and the her family's story continue without her.

Was Roseanne Barr in the reboot (when it started)? I thought her character had died before the reboot started.

Anyway, 'politics' hasn't really been a factor in the show (except for the fact that Darlene's son is gay).

Yeah, I know that. I thought it was going to be about the Terminator franchise when I had only read the name of the topic. I didn't think Roseanne was about the characters from Terminator.

I'm wanting to 'steer this conversation' back to "what do you think the situation's going to be?"

Do you have any theories (and let's try to stay 'within the fictional reality' ... not going too far into 'the actors' & writers'/producers' personal lives' ;) :?: )

One thing that will probably be handled differently with this pregnancy than ones that previously happened on the show is that Harris is single. She isn't currently partnered with anyone, if I recall, which is different than when Darlene was pregnant or even possibly when Roseanne was pregnant. They were young and unprepared, but there was a young and unprepared father in the picture too. She'll have the support of her family, but I don't think there will be a shotgun wedding.
