The times when protagonist actors play villain roles

Postby Netherrealmer » 07 Mar 2023, 20:29

I will use Pro-wrestling terms.. Babyface=hero, Heel = villain

If you are an actor and you had been babyface all your career, sometimes you will get bored of your career and wish you can play villain. So these actor decided to heel it up and play villain.

We mostly know Chris Evans as Captain America but he also played Human Torch. His nerdy looks made him typecast for hero roles. When he got offered the Gray Man, he shaved his beard but keep his mustache to have that rapist look and play his first villain role in decades. He really enjoyed torturing Ryan Gosling because he got tired being good for a decade. He is a natural babyface so him going heel seems to give him a good time.

I said in decades because this is his first villain role:

When Chris Hemsworth is not Thor, He is either an action star or a romantic lead. This is him playing a Psycho in Spiderhead. He really had fun playing evil here.

Priyanka Chopra is always a good girl in Bollywood movies. She is a protagonist when she debuted in Hollywood too with Quantico. She wanted to play a villain who will die. So in Baywatch the movie, she play villain and Dwayne The Rock Johnson killed her. I think any actor will want to be killed by Dwayne The Rock Johnson in movie, especially if you are the final boss.

There are actors who never played villain roles that I want to see play villain and die on screen. I might list them down later.

Why is it that tv programs and movies sometimes have the bad / creepy guy wear a mustache?

I think it's to make the villains ruder and at the same time less evolved.

I think vandam has played a villian role but I have forgotten the title of the movie. But sometimes it's boring to play the good guy. Lol

Shahrukh Khan - The king of Bollywood as many call him played negative and grey shade roles in Anjaam, Darr and Baazigar.
he got awards for some too.
Akshay Kumar has mostly been a hero but was the Baddie in Ajnabee (2001).
Ajay Devgn who mostly plays a hero was the villain in Khakhee (2004).
Amitabh Bacchan played many shades of Grey in movies like Aankhen (2002) and a few more.
And perhaps some instances more in Hollywood as well.
(Arnold in Terminator 1)

Some of the scariest villains are played by actors who are normally in comedic roles.

Number 23 is a bad movie but Jim Carrey is good villain in the movie.

Kristen Wiig is creepy as Cheetah in Wonder Woman 1984

I immediately thought of Daniel Radcliffe when I read the title of this thread. He spent a big part of his career playing golden boy Harry Potter. As soon as the franchise was over, he went on to do so many different things... like playing a demon, drug addict, and even a kidnapper. It's nice to see him doing new things though, and he's certainly rich enough to pick up any weird project he wants.

Its kind of fun to see these actors we know as the good guys or they always play the good guys decide to play a different role. It takes them oft their comfort zone and show how good they are.
