A Tribute to Tina Turner (Nov 26, 1939 – May 24, 2023)

Postby cmoneyspinner » 24 May 2023, 20:41

We've lost a legendary soul sista! TINA TURNER (1939 – 2023)

The first time I saw Tina Turner perform was on the Ed Sullivan Show, Jan 11, 1970. She was electric!
She became famous for her cover of the Creedence Clearwater Revival classic song “Proud Mary”.

I followed her career from that time forward.

I liked most of her songs but I narrowed it down to her 60-year career and picked these four:

"River Deep – Mountain High"
On Silent Wings
Simply the Best
One of the Living (from OST for Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome)

She was chosen to sing the theme song for the James Bond film “Golden Eye”. Here's a little trivia about that. Bono wrote that song especially for her to perform.

She sold her music catalog ~ 60 years of music ~ for $50 million.

Whereas Aretha Franklin was called the “Queen of Soul”, Tina Turner was the “Queen of Rock and Roll”.

In her personal life, she did something that made me proud.
~ She's a survivor. SHE WALKED AWAY FROM HER ABUSIVE HUSBAND, IKE TURNER. She left everything behind and walked off with nothing her stage name “Tina Turner”. (Her real name is Anna Mae Bullock.) With that name, she reinvented herself and become even more successful than when she was Ike.

She performed her last live concert in Austin, Texas USA. I live in this city but sadly I did not get to attend the show.

When I think of Tina Turner, I think:
STRONG WOMAN.
REMARKABLE.
A FIGHTER.
ICONIC.
EXEMPLARY and LEGENDARY.
A BEAST!! (And I mean that in a good way.) :D

Tina Turner described how she wanted to be remembered in an interview just six weeks before her death | Daily Mail Online

Goodbye my sweet soul sista! <3

I lived in Los Angeles in my 20's and went to clubs where she was performing. There is no way to type words with enough feeling to even begin to convey what it felt like being there in a small venue when she turns on that charm and excitement. Unforgetable!

But that's not to say she couldn't rock a big crowd too!

Sometimes if we were lucky, we could get a live concert that was televised. Her Amsterdam concert was on TV one night and my husband recorded it so we could watch it over and over. We also recorded some of her interviews. I liked listening to her answering questions about her career and her life. She was so energetic and spunky! Always positive.

She was unique and she is part of history, and will always be remembered and honored. I simply adore her songs, her strength, and her courage. I grew up with the sound of her songs in the 80s, it was with great sadness that I saw the news of her death. She will forever be the queen of rock. <3 <3

Tina Turner was one of the few artists who would give a live concert and there would be a grandmother, mother, and daughter all in the audience grooving to her music. :D

Her last vlog she uploaded was her birthday celebration during the Pandemic. She looks healthy so I thought she will live up to 100.

She was only one year younger than me, so watch what you say.

I had the good fortune to see her live at a concert in Dublin, over 20 years ago now. I wasn't a particular fan of hers prior to the concert, but she was amazing live. At the time I was really surprised, that someone who's music I wasn't mad about, could put on such an amazing and vigorating performance. May she rest in peace.

She seemed to really enjoy the concerts where she performed in European countries. I recall her saying that from one of her interviews.
